Whoa, this picked up quickly. Awesome, I'll get working on the OOC - though it shouldn't take me too long, as most of its done. [@QueenOfTheBee] Owing to your background and knowledge of the country, I assume you'd like to get in with Charlie at some point. Not sure how I'll go about it though, as usually I dominate the NPCs and make them purposefully expendable. Having an NVA/VC character might throw a spanner in the works, as their demise/actions wont be so easily dismissed. Also, PVP in roleplays tends to get a bit messy and argumentative. I'll give it some thought, but at the moment, the only way I can really see it happening is permitting you to play as a local NVA/VC commander, who performs a smaller role that is similar to mine.
There's gonna be pressure since we have an actual combat vet discerning what we write with mercilessly judging eyes. :lol
I'm sure RoadRash understands that many of us (myself included) haven't got a background in the military, and that research is all that we may have to give our characters and the setting substance. He doesn't seem like the kinda guy who'd start an OOC war because someone used the wrong lingo, or described an improper use of tactics. With realism, this RP will sit on the middle grounds. I don't want any cartoon rocket jumps, or slow motion Hollywood style gun play, but at the same time I don't want it to be one of those cold and clinical stats and numbers military RPs - purely because proper realistic RPs of this nature tend to alienate. In short, keep it as realistic to the best of your abilities, but don't fret over having to research 60,000 words worth of Vietnam War stuff.
I'm digging this. There's a lot of interest. So let's see, so far we've got; Platoon Sergeant Possible officer / engineer (depending which you choose, RPC) Radio Gunner (da Pig!) Doc Rifleman That's not a bad crew, already. Gives us a solid amount of firepower, especially if Mr_Pink's rifleman feels like lugging a Blooper along, as well? EDIT : Provided we're all accepted in our requested roles, of course.
Yeah, I'm liking the way this is shaping up - and so quickly! I'll start work on the OOC in a little bit. Also, as I've said, I have zero military background, and my usual level of expertise in this area is in World War One and Two. With Vietnam, I've got a good base of knowledge, but none of the finite stuff. I tend to research things before I post about them, but if I do make some glaring error in any of my GM posts, feel free to point it out. At the end of the day though, so long as everyone types their posts whilst listening to Fortunate Son by Creedence Clearwater Revival, everything should be fine!
