"Now, really Hannah, must you be so rude?" The Red Fox turned suddenly as a voice scolded her from across the table. There sat Adrian Bennett, newly arrived to the feast with a stern look on his face. It wasn't quite scolding, but closer to disappointment that decorated his visage. To say truthfully, he'd been excited when he saw the various red and gold scarves go up in flames; it meant somebody was trying to cause mischief, and he made it his business to find out whoever caused mischief in the school and confront them. But, in this case, it had been all too easy. As Hannah opened her mouth to defend herself, Adrian cut her off. "Straightforward, Hannah; the scarves that replaced the Gryffindors are all mostly spot on, but the Hufflepuff yellow lacks the shine of the actual colors, to differentiate it from Gryffindor's gold I presume, and Slytherin's true coat of arms features a deeper, slightly less verdant green. Only the Ravenclaw colors are spot on, which suggests that it was a Ravenclaw who did the deed. Of course, we can rule out anybody below 4th year based on the scale and skill of the magic. What's more, anybody who appreciates Quidditch would begrudge the Lions their chanting, out of respect for their earning the Cup. So it must be someone who either hates the sport, though I can scarcely imagine such a thing, or dislikes social situations. Furthermore," he continued after a brief period where he gathered his thoughts and mumbled to himself, "It was a quiet spell, which means it would have to be somebody versed in subtlety, yet the result shows their are proud of such. Thus narrowed down, the process is simple- find the Ravenclaw between 4th and 7th year who dislikes social situations and prides themselves on their subtlety... and has a singed sleeve hem from the fire spell." Thus satisfied with his summation, Adrian smiled slightly and added one more thing, a term he and Hannah often said over a chess board. "Échec et mat." French for "Checkmate." A moment later, however, he directed his eyes down to Hannah's own scarf- which was now dyed red and gold, having been changed with a quick incantation during his mumbling. This was the reason Adrian often sought out the troublemakers; not to bring them to justice or to see them caught red handed, but rather to show them how it was done.
