[@chukklehed] The thing I think you're missing here is that characters would be able to crossover with characters from the other thread. The GMs arent planting a wall between the Guilds, they're just reorganizing where the majority of their posts go. If you want to have interaction with someone from the other thread, that's fine- just decide ahead of time which thread you'll post in for that interaction. It's that simple.

EDIT: also, dissolving the 2 biggest guilds in the game would require some hefty story motivation. Like, Acnologia attacks and nearly murders everybody sized motivation. I'm not sure the GMs are in a position to want to engineer that sort of thing at the moment.
