Carcer City
A Dangerous World
[OOC OP WIP]
Carcer City is a reboot of a reboot of a vigilante-themed RP. I would link to the original OP if I could, but I can't find any archived version of it. While this iteration continues the central theme of vigilantism, it might stray from the original idea, for :airquote creative reasons :airquote as much as the fact that the original thread was lost in the server wipe. This is an Advanced RP grounded in a world of gritty realism and mature, dark themes. I consider this a fair enough warning for those interested. TL;DR Carcer City is a metropolis hopelessly plagued by crime and corruption. A few weary citizens decide to take the law into their own hands. These aren't your Clark Kents or Peter Parkers, these are real, mortal human beings, people who are simply hungry for justice. It is not just their story, it is also the story of all those tangled deep within the web of Carcer's dark heart. The law, the innocent, the corrupt, the criminals, and the just. This City is uncompromising, it is a brutal place for anyone to live and your characters will not be exempt from its cruelty.

City of Dreams

A brief history goes here.

City district information goes here.

Territorial information goes here.

Character Guidelines

Vigilantes can originate from a range of folks, from average joe's with ski masks and revolvers to socialites with resources and a moral conscious; however, they aren't laser-beam shooting humanoid aliens sporting neon tights (though your costume is really just personal taste), these are regular people living in a dark world that decide to take the law into their own hands. Bullets kill, not all "bad guys" are "bad" guys so to speak, and choices are morally questionable. Keep in mind that you don't have to have a character with a gun, and you don't have to have a character with a clear goal or "side." There is no black and white in Carcer City, just lots and lots of grey (inb4>50shadesreference). You can be a good cop, bad cop, a rising star or corrupt official, journalist or private detective, crime boss or trusted triggerman, a vengeful postal worker or a bored billionaire. They just need to be presented within the context of an unflinchingly brutal world. The more diversity in our characters the better. I'd personally like to see a violent love triangle between cops, criminals, and vigilantes; and I'd even love to see how any non-combatant caught in the middle might try to just survive it all. While we can certainly push the boundaries for the sake of intrigue and some stylistic approaches, I don't want to be toning characters down to reality from an Avengers-tier superhero. Remember this is supposed to be a dark and gritty world, so it'll be much easier to kill than pull a Batman/Superman no-kill policy. On top of that, killing would have an emotional effect on your character too and they aren't immortal in the physical sense either. If you get shot in the arm, please don't be arm wrestling Russian muscle next Tuesday. I'm not gonna say you can't fight 20 guys on your own because you may very well write it in a perfectly plausible way, I'm just trying to say: keep it based. I'd like the story to go beyond crime-fighting action towards a layered story about people and how twisted their lives become as they descend deeper into the criminal underworld of Carcer City. Maybe your character becomes haunted by their well-intended deeds and slowly spiral into a homicidal psychosis, maybe they regret their life choices during a midlife crisis and attempt to subversively disrupt crime rings from within. Either way, I'd like there to be a healthy balance between action and character development.

This RP is NOT first come first serve. While I do not expect overpopulation to be a problem, if I am forced to make a decision, it will be based off the quality of the CS. I'm not going to hound you for not following my CS to the tee, feel free to mix it up however you feel necessary for your creative purposes. However, I would like it if you at least provided most of the information requested.
Name: (Name your character appropriately to their background, don't put something like Jax Jackhammer, Roboarm P.I.) Alias: (Maybe you have an alter-ego, maybe your mob boss gave you a nickname, or maybe everyone on the force knows you from some office gossip) Age: (Self-explanatory) Appearance: (I'm pretty lax about this, I don't mind pictures. But if you do use a picture, please write a bit of description at least, as we cannot always infer things like height, etc. just from a single image) Occupation: (You have to pay the bills somehow) Personality: (Some people like to merge this with History into a "Bio" section, perfectly fine with me) History: (A decent enough preamble as to your characters ambitions) Skills & Traits: (Hopefully some of these make sense after reading your history too) Resources: (Weapons, items, special gadgets, etc. would all fit under this category) Relationships: (Any SOs? Maybe your character is well connected with public officials or cops. If so, mention them here.) Name: Alias: Age: Appearance: Occupation: Personality: History: Skills & Traits: Resources: Relationships:

A Word from the GM

A little something goes here.

This is an advanced RP. Because it is an advanced RP there is a certain minimum standard to the quality of writing that I expect in this RP. Although I'm not a stickler, nor am I a grammar nazi, if I do find your posts lacking then I will point them out; this is not to insult you, it's to help you become a better writer and to help in the overall comprehension of our collective IC. I would hope you would do the same for me. (Seriously, PM me or whatever if you feel like combing through my posts, I sincerely appreciate notes and the time put into them) When it comes to length of posts, I am even more lax. I'm not saying introduce yourself with a paragraph, but I am saying that if the context is appropriate then sometimes more than a couple paragraphs is unnecessary to move a scene along. If you're in a one on one dialogue or scene with another player (or even player(s)) sometimes it is better to take it to PMs so you can compose a post together. This will be better for everyone reading it too when it comes to consistency and coherence. If everyone is waiting on you in an action or important scene, I would rather you bang out a brief paragraph to move it along rather than wait a few weeks to read something longer than your introductory post. Again, this is all within the context of the situation. Typing a post that only consists of "Nah," will probably never be OK. I'm just trying to say, keep it based. If you haven't posted in a long time, been on online in a long time, or refuse to respond to PMs despite being online, we will collectively decide to take control of your character to move on. This rarely happens, and when it does, most people who come back are agreeable to the circumstances or are generally unaffected. When it comes to controlling NPCs or powerful characters, I'm completely cool about it. Discuss it in the OOC or PM me if it's something significant, but otherwise, go nuts. If your post is outrageous in its use of an NPC, I will ask you to reign it in. While I expect there will be some moments of burst posting (especially as we get started or as we reach climactic sequences), I am not expecting people to post in the IC more than once a week for the long haul as a GM. I will not force you into a 1 a week post-or-die standard because we have lives, but if you are in an inter-PC scene or another character is dependent on you somehow, you really have to follow that week long timeline, otherwise I will start to ask you what's up if you're not preemptively communicating in the OOC.

1. Keep it based. 2. Respect your fellow RPer. 3. Do not pull an M. Night Shyamalan with your history half-way through a major plot point unless it received approval 4. Try to post at least once a week (IC and OOC). 5. If you cannot post IC, please keep in touch OOC. 6. Do not allow drama to escalate, PM me immediately about OOC conflicts, even if you are not a party involved in the conflict. 7. If you are being unreasonable with your character, I reserve the right to assume direct control (e.g. if you're godmode owning another player character unfairly or unrealistically harassing someone) 8. Do not use OOC information IC unless there is a collaborative or pre-approved effort being made (e.g. use something you read in another player's history or inner thoughts from an IC post against them) or unless it would be common knowledge. 9. This is a Mature RP. Please handle any dark themes with maturity and tastefulness. Make sure you're always adhering to site rules. 10. I reserve the right to change the rules at anytime for the purposes of keeping the RP alive and on track.
