[i]Pet[/i] rats are akin to guinea pigs, only far more friendly and silly, trainable, will never intentionally bite out of spite, and they legitimately play with you, and studies show that they laugh when they're tickled.

Don't confuse gutter rats (pests) with domesticated rats (pets).
