I haven't the faintest idea how you consider what is, intrinsically, a mad scientist to be a good partner for someone so ridiculously stoic. They seem to be an intrinsically [i]bad[/i] pair. Gate [i]needs[/i] brakes and resources, and E has neither of them.

You're basically suggesting the worst partner: without resources or enough backbone to stop her, she's going to be a living disaster, which isn't the intended goal.
