Actually, the idea was for E to sort of direct Gate and keep her from making mistakes. E is clever, tough and has a plan. Meanwhile, as stoic as E is, they are secretly amused by things that other people so, and would enjoy Gate's company.

E wouldn't be able to provide much for her to go mad scientist on other than guns, though. So I'll admit E is short on the resources point.
