The point of roleplaying is to push around obstacles like this. What they're doing is the logical thing to do in this situation. For an example, I had thought Legend had crushed my Spirit arc entirely when he asked SPirit to unlock the memories, but I worked around it and made it much better. Roleplaying is meant to improve your writing skills by causing you to think through every situation carefully.
