Mind you, they have not been there since the fall of the Vishput, but came there long after (as stated in the application). It is also noted that they are very conservative and, although not spelled out directly, xenophobic. Adopting customs from a people they readily defeated and perhaps considered weak does not seem likely to a culture like that.

To address last first: there are people related to his own nearby, but not his own directly. They're named within his application and how they got there.
