All the relevant posts to SgtEasy's Democracies' interaction with my civ and Durandandal's.

Basically it's a first contact which got somewhat rough.
Morteans wish to colonize the (relatively) distant Blume System, specifically Blume Vier.
Once they got into the system both they and the Democracies spotted the other-
Democracies sent their message along with a telepathic wave to allow them to understand it.
Telepathic waves got caught in the Morte's defenses who mistook this as an attack but the worst scenario was averted.
Both the Morteans and Democracies also were assaulted by another alien race, I don't remember their name but the Democracies' enemies.
The enemy was weak so they were quickly beaten.
After that the Morteans managed to read the psychic message (it's complicated) and deciphered the Democracies' language somewhat, enough to send them a mesage.
It said they are open to talks but psychics are not welcome and instead they should talk via translator devices.

Sometime around this durandal's fleet of C'Ran ships had arrived, to the other side of Blume Vier.
Morteans sent out scouts while the C'ran flagship went to meet the Morteans.
Language confusion as before but the C'Ran didn't use psychic powers and managed to translate the Mortean language on its own.
Talks began, C'ran is interested in the Mortean fleet and who are their "friends" (Democracies).
Also turned out that the C'ran were looking for a specific artifact an it's in progress.
The Morte offers their help.
Meanwhile the Democracies haven't even reacted to the C'ran yet.
