They're for the smart who don't want to give themselves away. I can read your entire history in your eyes; you arose and triumphed, ascending above what you considered to be evil for yourself, and now believe yourself to be some sort of savior of the innocent or weak. You think that going through that past qualifies you as wise, or perhaps special.
