Yes, it was an attempt, but throwing her legs forward still wouldn't get them inside where she could pull guard. He never left enough room between her and him for her legs to fit so easily. At most, her legs would hit his back and stop there. Basically, I'm not understanding how throwing her legs around could get them from outside his guard (and mount), to inside where she could pull guard. From my understanding of the situation, he tried to get her in guard and had at least one leg wrapped around her and the other one most of the way there, then she dropped back to try an ankle lock while he sat up to counter it. They'd essentially still be in the same position as when he pulled guard except now she's on the bottom.
