Actually within the context of the source it is out of the question. A large part of the story is that most other technologies were left behind in favor of space travel and colonization. Also you said that your character would pilot the main ship, and Midori has that covered. I like the idea of your character but piloting the ship and being an anthro doesn't fit into the universe and I think Midori will agree.
