Technically the system Vocaloid and Miku are separate entities, the character is owned by Yamaha, but anyone using the software technically isn't using the idol herself.

It's weird. Basically whoever made the song with that software owns that version of Miku's voice, but Yamaha does not, they own the appearance. They don't own the music created, but the character is copyrighted under them and they use the software.

What I'm saying Darcs is disco is dead.
