Ben's body is composed completely of an unidentified inorganic rock. However there is more than meets the eye with Ben. After his body was destroyed during a skirmish in downtown New York, Ben was able to reform his body using pieces of rubble in the area. After multiple testing it was discovered that Ben has actually been transformed into a non-physical psychic entity that can form and control a stone "golem".

Due to Ben's stone body or "golem", he is able to lift up to 75 tons.
[b]Superhuman Durability:[/b]
Again, due to his stone golems, he can withstand great impact forces, high caliber bullets, temperature and pressure extremes, and falls from great heights without sustaining any injury.

Just going to spoil his history a bit and say that Ben is similar to that of his House of M counterpart in that he is the only survivor of the rocket's explosion.
