"And you're sure about this? There's still time to reconsider, your excellency." A gleaming red serpent says to another, who is colored a dull purple. They traverse up an inclined tunnel to the outside light. The other responds. "And let our people waste away like a shrub with no water? I wouldn't dream of it." "As you wish." The two creatures exit the tunnel to a simple balcony with a view of a vast desert. Bellow the balcony are countless numbers of the same creatures as the first two. They begin chanting. "Shel! Shel! Shel! Shel!" The purple serpent raises his frills to request silence. He speaks. "Comrades! Family! All who reside in this domain! As I am sure you know, the natural resources of our native land have begun to dwindle. We face starvation... plague..." He looks at one serpent in the crowd. "...war. There is only one solution to this. To find new, fertile lands. To find food for our families. To gather resources and ensure the survival of our people. However, this will not come free. We will go through many hardships. Friends will likely die. But they will not be lost in vain! I know we can be sure of that!" The crowd goes wild as the red serpent attempts to calm them down. The purple serpent continues after clearing his throat. "We have lived here for as long as any of us can remember. These lands have supported us since we were created! But now, Ki'Kisc has shown us that our time has come to wrangle the unknown! I have entrusted Vinal Katruzovich, a loyal friend of mine, to oversee the project. Please go to him if you wish to contribute. I know many of you will! Thank you!" The crowd once again cheers and hums in a perfect C Sharp. The two serpents on the balcony slither back into the hole. Vinal, the red serpent speaks to his purple comrade while they're on their way back to their burrows. "If this goes badly, I fear you... and me will be the target of all those people out there." "I am aware." Responds Shel in a hushed tone. "But what choice have we? I would rather die trying than hide in my hole and let our entire peoples starve." He slides into a hole in the side of the tunnel. "And besides, if this effort fails, will there be anybody left to betray us?" They stare at each other for a few seconds. "Shomal Ki'Kisc, Shel." says Vinal. "Shomal Ki'Kisc, Vinal." responds Shel. The Rokthan | Population; 254 | Year 0
