Decided I'll just post it here. Not much is ever outlined mythologically with these creatures so I ran with it.
Name: Sophie Leclair Age: 206 Gender: Female Race: Jackal Hybrid Appearance: Job: Considered a child among her people she did not have a job. However in Diehlstadt she has taken up her old mantle of research, working at the library. There in much reading to be done. Personality: Despite once being human she feels quite distant from them. Having learned to be rather stoic the introduction to the more expressive species has put her at odds. Still there is an adventurous young woman fighting to get out so once one can get past her shell then who knows. Background: The myth and legend of gods are often wrong but inspired by truth. Such is the case with the god Anubis. While more of a Greek invention there are numerous depictions of creatures with the body of a human and heads of a jackal in ancient Egyptian artwork. While creatures similar to this exist, they were not gods. Sophie was not one of these originally. No she was born human. She learned from first hand experience that these Jackal men were made by yet another myth. As part of a small French expedition into Egypt they sought knowledge. Recently there were had been murmurs of new catacombs. Those that wanted to protect such historical treasures needed to move quickly before robbers stripped and destroyed everything. Being a young adventurous 21 year old Sophie was eager to explore. With luck and much walking over the same paths they found a small opening into what they sought. Being smaller than her compatriots she had to slip in alone with little more than a small pick and a lamp. Not well versed in the art of exploration within a short few minutes she became lost. The underground seemed endless and there was little to rerace steps. Weakened by time the floor beneath her gave and she fell into a small room, the lamp left above. Scrambling about with minimal light her hand found a small object. Glowing softly it revealed itself to be scarab amulet. In ancient times the beetle was seen as connected to the sun's movement and recreation. After getting over the shock she saw little choice but to use the thing for light and placed the necklace around her neck. Gone were the days where magic was a common belief among human society. But there was no other explanation for the young woman. The power of the amulet coursed through her. Transformed and transported she found herself a new creature in another realm. There were others much like her, created by the same process but many many years earlier. She was the newest arrival in thousands of year, the amulets having become extremely rare. Adopted into the culture she was raised in this new world. Even later at 206 she is considered a young child. While she could visit Earth by slipping through the shadows it was looked down upon. Not until word of Diehlstadt reached her did she really consider it. No one else seemed particularly interested and against advisement she took the leap. Much had changed in 200 years but the human heart in her still longed to see home and experience the unknown. Note: The scarab is a living thing that can move about on its own. It is however bound to Sophie and she is able to use it as a second pair of eyes and ears.
