The water pressure eased as Evvie slipped into unconsciousness, and Anna almost tenderly drew her to the surface of the water, forcing the water from her lungs as she deposited her on a small island of sand. The water lapped at the Dragon-kin’s heels, and it was no sure thing that she would waken before she was forced into the water again, but there was naught else for it. That was more than enough kindness for one day. Anna returned to the sea, her tears mixed with the waves.
