Jäger stared with narrowed eyes at the teacher, sat directly in front of her at the other end of the room. She didn’t like it when people just casually disregarded her like that, especially when she went to so much trouble to be polite and friendly. Not that any of the other late arrivals faired any better, which was something at least. She turned toward Kageta and hummed thoughtfully as she considered his question. “I’m not sure. It’s clear that we can’t just go and ask for one, or everybody would have one. No, we need to do something to earn them, something to catch their attention, something that they can’t ignore,” she said thoughtfully, referring to those who constituted the real power in this academy. She had had an idea about that, however she was cut off just as she opened her mouth to speak, the sound of fist on blackboard silencing the background conversation of the other students. Once their teacher was satisfied that he had gotten everyone’s attention he cleared his throat to speak. “OK listen up brats, you have an assembly to get to, pronto, no slacking off. If I catch anyone trying to sneak off you’ll be sent straight to the Disciplinary Committee, understand? Good,” he said in monotonous tone that suggested that despite his words he really could care less. After a moment of hesitation the students started to mobilise, displaying no more enthusiasm than that shown by their teacher. Jäger turned toward Kageta and shrugged before joining the rest of the students as they headed toward the assembly point.
