The circular bands on this are Chakrams
They are circular blades mostly used for throwing, however, multiple chakrams would sometimes be placed over the body to also act as an armor and protect against attacks
Alternatively, they could hold it, from the inside, and use it to cut at enemies up close

Could go for this type of Chakram design, should be throwable and used in close range
