If people can't piece together an image in their heads of what your character looks like despite you going into great detail is their fault, not yours.

As for those who can, don't stress about them not knowing your character's appearance down to the specific cellular structure of the fibers of their hair. It's perfectly okay to get a general idea of what a character looks like and then fill in the little gaps yourself. A lot more fun, from my experience.
