Proverbs 1:8 - "Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching."
Parents are our authority. We are to learn from our parents. They know best, period, as long as they are following God's standards. It's wrong to think that you can know better for yourself than your parents. It just shouldn't be done. I don't mean any offence.
