In this way she upholds a facade of cold, uncaring apathy, looking at the world through a lense of objectivity and logic. Still, despite her efforts, no one is perfect, as beneath the surface Harime is just as much a young girl as any other, with wishes, dreams, and aspirations. Among her flaws is her haughty nature, made more noticeable by her proper manner. Still, beyond these things is a girl desperately trying her utmost to rise up and do proud to her family, in particular her father to whom she holds immense adoration. Beyond the mask of nobility is a secret love for excitement and a drive to rise above the rabble and distinguish herself to society. Still, she is a rather lonely soul, as her position drives her to push most away with the facade of cold that she drapes about herself, causing most to flee her and thus depriving her of friends that, deep down, she so sorely wishes she had. History: "There is room for both beauty and cruelty in this world. Whether the two are equal however, is hard to tell," – Kuchiki, Harime. Raised as the scion of the noble family of Kuchiki, Harime has been pushed to do her utmost for her entire life. Everything from her daily activities, to social interactions have been carefully watched and graded by her mother and father both. She has been groomed for greatness, and while she bears this burden proudly, it is a heavy one, and she is young. While she never complains or protests the harsh expectations laid for her by her predecessors, and parents, she is secretly weary of it all, wishing she could just live a normal life...as a common girl. Still, she is a proud girl, and while her brief moments might be spent daydreaming of another life, she instead spends them training, so as to hide the hard lump she feels in her heart. Enrolled in the academy early on, Harime did stunningly in all fields however, at the behest of her father, was pushed to focus her efforts on the art of combat and synchronicity with her zanpakuto. Still even when she discovered her blade's name and proved to her father that she could achieve shikai, she was given oh so little recognition. With each continued success her father merely raised the bar and she withdrew further into her aloof facade, trying to impress him with maturity, and hide from her own emotions. As she neared her last year of the academy she felt immense relief, but also building trepidation. Her fears were realized when, upon graduating, her father made no effort to show that he was happy with her effort, he merely nodded, a look in his eyes saying that it was to be expected, she was a Kuchiki after all. She cried that night.
Only a year later, after she'd been assigned to the 7th division, the academy called on her and a girl who had been one of her underclassman, by one year, for a demonstration to the Academy's new entrants. For no reason other than boredom, and perhaps the tiny hope that her father might see her and recognize her skill, she decided to participate. That was the day she met Rēku.
Giggling merrily as she skipped into the arena, Rēku looked upon the new students at the academy. They were all...Older than her...Why couldn't there just be one, just one, person that was her age? Oh well it didn't matter one way or another. Then there was the arena. What they had prepared outdoors for this wonderfully pointless event was actually quite nice! You had some free pillars, a couple arch ways, it was plain, ordinary, and they even had sand in the pit to make them pretend to feel safer even! Then there was the instructor introducing Rēku and her opponent. It was a normal speech about how they were two of the top students of their class, blah blah, woof woof. He ranted a lot, but it was to be expected. After all the instructors had no other true talent then babbling to students. Rēku jumped up and down waving to the new students still giggling happily though. Having entered at the same time as her would-be competitor, Harime's cold blue eyes drifted over the crowd, their gaze uncaring even as they returned to the instructor who stood between them. She said nothing, made no movements, 'cept those of her eyes, while she stood there...waiting. She was not what one would call a patient girl, but she was not impatient either. No, she lay somewhere inbetween, always waiting for the right time, or perhaps simply waiting for something worth her time at all. Nothing had appeared yet, and she did not expect to be surprised here, though such might be a nice change from the monotany of the world. It hardly mattered. Nothing did. After another minute of the instructor's gibbering, her voice cut through his as her cold eyes lay upon him, "May we begin Ousu-san, I tire of waiting." The man turned to meet her eyes, but the moment he did he regretted it and turned away, taking a moment to regain his wits and speak to the crowd, "Without further ado, we shall begin the demonstration. Stay outside the bounds of the arena, we wouldn't want any accidents," his voice lilted joyfully before he used shunpo to exit the area himself. Safely beyond the boundary he nodded to the two and called out, "You may begin!" Harime's eyes turned to Rēku, as devoid of interest as they always were. Waiting...watching...judging. This was her way. Rēku was already getting more excited than she probably should've, or at least that's probably what everyone was thinking from her overly happy appearance. She wasn't overdoing the whole giggly happy kid routine was she? She shrugged it away in her mind doing a handstand while waiting on the instructor to finally shut up. Seriously, did they really need to rant this freakin' much? Then the other girl cut him off, thank god for that, and he got his boring self out of the way. Rēku finally ended with a cartwheel to stand up straight as the fool finally began the...what was this again...? Bout? Spar? Play? Ummmm...Demonstration! That was it! Rēku giggled once more gripping her zanpakuto's tsuba with two fingers looping through the holes where the floor design was to slowly begin sliding out her best friend excited to wake them. "Let's try and make this good, what do ya say?" She says innocently. Her head tilting almost imperceptibly to the side, Harime's eyes briefly slid over the girl from top to bottom, then back to her face, looking into the graduate's purple eyes. Her gaze stayed on there, gazing at the eyes whose color was far too royal for the girl whose head they lay within. "That's not up to me," Harime replied dryly, her right hand gracefully drifting to the hilt of her blade, which was held in the sash on the left side of her waist. Her left hand hovered just over the opening of the sheath at her side. After a moment of brief thought, she spoke again, "I hope you're going to stop your foolishness now, and fight, because I'm growing quite...bored." Rēku frowned like the child she was. "You know...You're not too fun..." Rēku finished pulling out her zanpakuto from its sheath by the tsuba twirling it slowly until after a couple of flips she was holding her zanpakuto horizontally infront of her with her right hand smiling. 'If miss boredom wanted to be so dull then so be it' Rēku slipped her tongue out of the corner of her lip smirking. 'Time to put a smile on her face...' Rēku then continued to lick the blade, tsuba to point. "Careful what you wish for...Devour and create...Ryūshi Tōzoku..." As a result Ryūshi Tōzoku began to glow a bright pinkish-purple color as the blade shrinks down to twenty-seven inches in length the glow dying down but not fading completely. Rēku grins as sparkles of pink and purple light seem to slowly exude from the blade. "How crass," she mocked boredly as she drew her blade from its sheath, slowly, effortlessly. It was more like the blade was an extension of her body, than a tool for her use. Stepping towards her opponent, Harime began crossing the distance with a kind of elegance not often seen in many her age. One might have said it was a sign of maturity...or perhaps the result of a harsh regiment put in place by the noble house of Kuchiki. It was the former. "Rejoice," Harime said with her usual tone, "You are fortunate enough to witness my blade." With her meaning expressed, the girl let the tip of her zanpakuto enter its sheath once more. "Tesselate," with the phrase begun she withdrew the blade from its sheath, reiryoku now attached to its tip, "...Reitō seishin(冷凍精神 'Frozen spirit')." The tip emerged from her sheath and with it a large wisp of reiryoku came into view, its light blue shimmer drifting about the girl, always staying several feet from her form. There was a light shimmering as light was refracted against hundreds of miniscule ice crystals, which drifted down through the air and drapped the young shinigami's clothes, turning them a shade of pure white that one might describe as heavenly in its nature. Her eyes resting once more on Rēku as she continued forwards, never increasing her pace, but never stopping. There were only three meters left between them. She was silent throughout. Watching... ...Waiting... ...Judging. She was a Kuchiki after all, and this girl was but a member of a fallen noble house. She was despicable. Rēku blinked a couple times. Did this girl want to kill her with boredom? Technically she had a decent shikai release. It looked somewhat nice though she was so ungraceful with the semi-beautiful release. Rēku lowered her blade into the sand letting it slide in and secretely release three blade bits into the ground hidden under the ruse of just sliding it through sand and spinning around and kicking up sand with the blade to get in Harime's eyes as one blade bit launches from the tip towards Harime's left leg to slow down her opponent's movement as Rēku giggles jumping backwards onto her hands then pushing up and landing on her feet hopping back a couple more feet after landing. The moment the sand was thrust into the air towards her eyes didn't even make her flinch, as immediately each individual granule of sand froze, and as they did the wisp could be seen lazily passing before her form. The crystals of ice then continued to spread from the tiny grains of sand, connecting them in less than two seconds. The ground was touched as well, freezing over somewhat. Harime's eyes glanced down and she hopped upwards and to the side lightly, her clothes fluttering as she did, nearly touching the small wave-like formation of ice. However, rather than her foot truly touch the formation, it touched only hardened air, before pushing off of it and landing on the other side of the ice, where the ground was not frozen. Her head tilted once more as she continued to approach, never ceasing her movement, "Why do you run, Tatasuko?" She queried almost curiously. As she did so the faintly glowing mist passed behind her, and where the glittering fragments of light fell, the ground froze. Rēku giggles merrily as she jumps back onto her hands again, and once more also pushes off into the air landing on her feet hopping back another couple yards smiling cheerfully as the blade bit that had gone for Harime's leg before came around and went for her left side to wound her. If it were to come into contact with Harime then instead of a cut they would feel that part of their body ripped away including a millimeter of what isn't touched. "What? You don't like to fight me at a distance like this? Or is it just embarrassing having to exert more effort to beat a mere Tatasuko? Or is it the fact that you'll lose to one because you won't be able to handle my power?" Rēku teased sticking her tongue out tauntingly hoping that this would keep Harime's attention from the blade bit. Secretly the other three blade bits had tunneled to where Rēku stood now but continued backing up step by step as the ground weakens after her as she slowly lures Harime into her trap. An eyebrow rose at her words, then both lowered, her eyes narrowing slightly. "Surely you jest," she said in a strangely mocking tone, had her eyes not narrowed, one might have thought she was ignoring what the girl had said. Her actions proved otherwise. Blade raising before her, the ground freezing just behind, the wisp of reiryoku traveled to the tip of her outstretched blade as she drew a delicate line from left to right. Where the wisp passed ice was revealed by its movement, forming a thin sheet of the frigid reishi. "Tachi-mai(裁ち枚 'Cutting sheets')," she proclaimed, the tip of her blade pressing against the center of the ice blade she had created. As she did so, the wisp suddenly darted down towards her own legs, circling around far too close for comfort. She, instinctively, hopped forwards once even as the sheet of ice suddenly flew forwards in a surge of movement, cutting through the air to reach its target. However, the wisp was not quite fast enough and so the tiny blade managed to just barely nick the edge of her leg through her clothes. She gritted her teeth, trying not to show any sign of pain...or weakness, to her adversary. She didn't like the feeling. She knew the little traitor would laugh, and she hated that even more than the feeling. "Seishin!" She called out, and immediately the wisp responded, shrinking into a miniscule point and in the same moment vanishing outright. The girl had noticed the tiny blade now as it curved back around to strike her. Too slow, she raised her blade slightly, but even as she did the wisp suddenly emerged from the opening of her sheath, shooting forwards as it did so, and striking the blade bit head on. In the same movement, Harime had jumped to her diagonally forwards and to the left, so as to distance herself from the bit. She glanced forwards at Rēku and noticed that the blade appeared measurably shorter than it had been before. Harime's eyes narrowed at that fact and as they did she decided to abandon certain notions in favor of ending this quickly. It wouldn't do to disappoint her father. Meanwhile the blade bit would find itself buried within the wisp that was Seishin, a physical manifestation of her sword spirit, or at least a partial one. While Seishin could not contest its fellow zanpakuto for long, it managed to slow the shard down for roughly five seconds, before the blade extricated itself, now covered in tiny ice crystals, its form reflecting far more light than before, rendering it considerably more visible than it had been prior. Harime intended to make use of this in the future. Rēku giggled cheerfully at the sight of her blade bit ripping away part of Harime's flesh. The minute amount of reaction Harime expressed was good enough. "Having a problem over there?" Rēku asked tauntingly. At this point her blade bits inside the ground had made a crescent moat around Rēku and thus were ready to surprise Harime. The blade bits moved in between the two girls underground and began zig zagging in a pattern that would actually look somewhat awe inspiring if it could have been seen preparing to strike at Harime from underground if she tried to come at Rēku and would move to intercept too, though the sad thing for Harime was that if she just stayed still they would also pounce on her. The one above ground had broken free of the wisp. Rēku believed she was beginning to learn a decent amount of Harime's zanpakuto, but she knew better than to assume she knew it fully. The freed blade bit would move to strafe accross Harime's lower back leaving a particle trail all the way to, through, and after it attacked. The tsuba on Rēku's blade had also started to glow though this was more of a blue-purple color which really helped show the flower outlined by the tsuba. As to the troublesome blade coming towards Rēku she simple leaned back down a bridge to watch the blade trail over her head. She began moving once more, her senses noting the tiny blade beginning to trail towards her once more. She raised her own blade and then pulled her arm backwards somewhat. In the moment that she did, the sheet of ice that had just flown over her adversary had began to drop towards the ground, having lost momentum. However, as she pulled, the particle thin string of frozen reishi connecting the ice to her blade became visible and it came back. The blunt inner edge of the ice sheet would slam into Rēku's back, pulling her forwards if she could do nothing against it. However, her situation was far more dire than that. With the passing of Tachi-mai was brought the same crystals of ice that ever drifted from the wisp's form. They had already touched the sand leading from where Harime had stood when she'd fired, all the way to where the Tatasuko now stood. The ground froze, but not just on the surface, the ice traveled downwards and as it did, the little Kuchiki became aware of the other blade bits below. Immediately she shifted gears, lunging forwards and away from the blade bit that attempted to clip her back. The ice continued to spread, moving outwards from its formerly two meters wide path, spreading, in seconds, to a width of seven meters, with Harime jumping just over the surface, solidifying an invisible trail of reishi barely a milimeter above the ground. To Rēku this would have been essentially invisible due to the utterly tiny amount of space between foot and ground respectively. The effect would however make it appear almost as if Harime's feet were gliding across the ground, giving a dainty grace to her movements. She was closing the distance fast, but as she did she noted the movement beneath the ice upon, which she ran. Left, right, whirling upwards were the tiny blades. "Seishin," she beckoned, taking in a deep breath and exerting a small layers of reiryoku upon her clothes and flesh. As the first blade emerged and struck, her blade struck it in kind, hitting it away. She caught the second as well, but the third nearly hit her, before the wisp engulfed it, swept around her and caught the other two as they circled back around. Harime felt a tiny smile, one that would be so subtle as to barely be seen, tug at her lips. The elation of battle had begun to touch her nerves, she couldn't help it. However, she would not be lost in it, this she must never do. With every moment that passed the crystals of ice propagated, in the sand as well as on Reku's flesh. Soon it would be time. "Seishin!" She called once more and the wisp, which had briefly circled back to catch the third blade and then flown several meters away to release them, now returned, vanishing, then emerging from her sheath anew. The last blade bit, in the wake of the three that had attempted to strike her, through the air at her side from behind. She spun on her heel, slashing behind her even as she continued to slide backwards. Her blade struck the tiny shard, and as it did...the shard was sent flying many more meters away than it ought to have been. She continued her momentum, turning on the same heel as if she had been skating on ice, and done a spin as she slashed. She once more faced Reku, the distance almost closed now. It appeared that Harime was serious now. Rēku had been wanting to test her theories, and she got what she wanted. The ice seemed to become attached to her body, sadly proving her theory right although it seemed to spread faster than she had anticipated. On top of that this lovely little blade of ice coming back towards which was fine. Rēku licked her lips and lifted her zanpakuto as the remaining twenty-three blade bits spark on each other as they fly out in random directions scattering particles in their wake as two interrept and take in the ice blade which seemed to slow a bit, not much, but a bit. This seemed to create a new colored particle, interesting indeed. This third color seemed to flow out with the other particles, its shade a silvery blue. This could possibly change things for what she was about to do, but she would have to wait and see. The blade bits began to circle Rēku at a quickly growing pace surrounding her as she stands up in an almost tornado like fashion. The rising heat seemed to also slow down the spreading ice upon her which was a plus. "Well it's been fun..." Rēku mused giggling softly. "But I think it's time to wrap this up, after all...We are responsible individuals with duties to get to!" She says clearly teasing and mockingly. As she did this though the blade bits created a tornado of particles flowing around her, and they only seemed to grow in number as the blades spun faster and faster and steam could also be seen from the beat mixing with the ice. "Bankai..." As she spoke the word the particles seemed to start moving differently as the four blade bits near Harime had begun dancing together creating more particles. "Suisei Ryūshi Tōzoku..." Rēku hadn't shown her bankai up until this point, it had been her little secret, but now she wanted everyone to know, wanted people to finally realize that she wasn't just a little kid in the way, Rēku wanted them all to know, that they were the ones in her way. All of the particles in the area that had been created up until that moment that had been floating around seemed to suddenly surge into all of the blade bits closest to them. The ice that had been slowly trying to encase Rēku shattered and quickly evaporated due to the heat and pressure being exerted from Rēku and her zanpakuto. Once all the particles had been absorbed into the blade bits and everyone could see once more, they would finally notice that each blade bit glowed even brighter now. A vibrant pink light shining brightly from each individual blade bit and as they flew there was no longer a stream of particles left in their wake, no. Now they were moving even faster and without any trace at all. Retreating somewhat as she noted the strange movements of the tiny blades, Harime moved to a distance of 2.5 meters, where she stayed, eyes narrowed slightly. Biting her lip for a brief moment, Harime's eyes darted about for a brief moment before settling once more on her opponent. "I assure you, my duties far outweigh yours, yet here I am, dragged by these imbeciles for a demonstration for the academy," she scoffed, the slightest of annoyance apparent in her voice. Then Reku said that fateful word, one that even she had to admit she was shocked to hear. Her eyes widened slightly as the the transformation finished, the blade's name stated in its completed form. How, how could this undesirable little bitch have bankai?! Gritting her teeth and exhaling long and slow, Harime did her best to return to the calm in her mind. Letting one's emotions get the best of them was equivalent of weakness...and she was not weak. She refused to be. Turning away from the absurdity of an academy graduate possessing, no, insulting the sanctity of bankai, Harime raised her zanpakuto above her head, its blade vertical in orientation. As she did so, she closed her eyes, took in one more calming breath, and proclaimed, "Hyōmaku(雹幕 'Hail curtain')." Immediately Seishin gravitated to her blade, whirling about its form with increasing intensity, as it did so, the tiny shards of ice built up, slammed together by the speed and cohesion of their form. Harime's eyes met Reku's just a moment before her blade whipped down to her side and she pushed forwards, Seishin's form having apparently vanished. All that was left behind were what appeared to be a small storm of tiny ice shards that circled her blade. Mindful of their continually growing size, though they grew slower than her normal ice had, Harime held her blade out away from her body. Then, her ice notifying her of the instability of the ground, Harime pushed off and upwards, flying into the air as she did so and slashing upwards as her body moved in the same direction. Eight glimmering six inch long shards of jagged hail were thrown from the blade as she slashed, each leaving a glimmering trail of ice crystals behind. Harime was done playing with this girl. Rēku smiled and giggled looking up at Harime lifting her free hand making a fist then lifting one single finger, then moving it from side to side mockingly. One of the blade bits that was now behind Harime but still beneath her and near the ground started coming back towards Rēku and Harime, well they all did--all four of them, but this one stayed near the ground and as Harime tried launching an assault at her angle in the sky a beam launched from the single blade bit intercepting and vaporizing the ice assault leaving no immediate trace of Harime's attempt to strike at Rēku who continued to just smile and giggle at the feeble attempt. "What a fun little game! Are you going to throw more next?" She says with a child-like voice and curiousity some in the audience if they could even hear Rēku might even think it was genuine, hopeful though Harime would pick up on the fact that it was a jab at her futile attempt had been. However, Harime didn't even blink, her gaze unwavering as, almost from thin air, four formations of ice began to form, far more rapidly than normal. Harime pulled the tiny strands that connected them to her blade, channeling her reiryoku into them and sending the four attacks forth. Pressing reiryoku onto the surface of her feet as she began to fall, Harime made contact with the tiny threads and pushed off of them to soar further into the air. As she ascended she flicked her blade in several directions and with each movement one shard that rotated about her zanpakuto was flung in an apparently random direction, each striking something. Some merely hit the ground, while others careened into the pillars and box-shaped obstacles that were scattered about the field. As each struck ice erupted from them, covering three meters of space almost instantaneously upon doing so, before the speed at which they spread slowed back to its normal pace. As the last shard was released Seishin once more took form, emerging from her sheath as a wisp. "Be careful what games you play, little girl," Harime retorted before letting herself fall once more, Seishin ever present. However, she had a long way to fall, as through her ministrations she had risen roughly 20 meters into the air. Rēku frowned pouting Harime really was no fun. It wouldn't be fun if she was careful! Rēku quickly smiled giggling once more. As boring as Harime's personality was, she wasn't half bad to go a few rounds with. In fact Rēku hadn't had this much fun in a long time! Watching her adversary frown as she fell towards the earth, Harime brought her blade in front of her chest, its alignment horizontal. Placing her hand on the back edge of the blade near the end, Harime spoke, her tone ominous, "Shimo no genzen(霜の厳然 'Grave of frost')." The effect was immediate. Pillars of ice sprung forth from every surface that her ice had touched: The boxes and pillars, the sand, and even some of the space around Reku herself, which had not melted from the release of her bankai. However, what was perhaps most dangerous about the technique was not what you could see, but what you couldn't. With each tiny movement that Seishin made, light refracted and reflected within and between a hundred or so spikes and pillars of pressurized ice. It was like the glare from snow on a sunny day in winter, only far more blinding. Rēku had to give Harime credit, at least she had a zanpakuto that could create beautiful art since it was apparent that Harime had no true artistic value. The blinding light was not expected nevertheless...a smile came to her face and she licked her lips. "Go ahead, Ryūshi..." Since Ryūshi Tōzoku had already tasted Harime's blood she didn't require Rēku to guide her, in other words she was awake for the hunt. The three blade bits in their small group sped up and kept twisting and intertwining keeping in an almost majestic pattern of flight as they attempted to assault Harime on their own in addition to the blade bit that had been underneath Harime. To top it off three more separated from the tornado of blades which then changed its pattern to keep defending Rēku the best possible way for the number. The assaulting blade bits would then attack Harime, faster, with more agility, they would now slash and burn the opponent wherever they struck instead merely tearing away at their body. The best part? After the first assault was dealt with somehow by the first four the next three would step in, and of course Ryūshi Tōzoku would use her favorite method. Surround, cut them up a bunch, and if Rēku permitted, destroy...And because of the light, Rēku simply closed her eyes still giggling happily at the pure pleasure of the fight. While Reku was blinded, Harime remained able to see, the light directed in such a way as to not interfere with her own sight. So it was in this way that the young shinigami managed to note that despite Reku's own blindness, her blade appeared to have no trouble tracking her down. Annoying, she thought even as she continued to plummet through the air. She only had two techniques left, and one of them only lasted for three minutes--hardly any time at all. This would be it. The tiny blades closed in. She struck at one, using the hit to push herself away in the air, then stepping on one of the nearly invisible threads of ice as she had before and pushing down and off of that to evade another flurry of blades. SHe couldn't do it forever, and she knew she'd never be able to attack if she had to continue defending. So she tried something. "Hyōmaku!" She stated, inciting the creation of fourteen shards of ice, all orbiting her blade. Using several threads and a twist of her blade, she entered a spin, slashing her blade out in all directions at once. As she did so, the shards flew about, each adjusted by a slight flick or shift of her blade. Each blade bit had two shards aimed just inches from its form and as they neared it the heat set them off, causing the shards to explode violently, their ice overlapping and creating seven cages of super dense ice around the blade bits. She knew they wouldn't last. Exiting her spin, she pushed off of one more thread and shot downwards at high speed, but rather than aim at Reku herself, she slashed twice through the air, muttering under her breath. A moment afterwards three harsh impacts with the ground would come to Reku's attention, one behind and to her right, another behind and to her left and the other directly in front of her. After barely a half second the sound of movement through air could be heard from all three locations, approaching her. It was too bad she still couldn't see the flash of light. Rēku just kept giggling. The noises she heard meant it was probably time. "Ryūshi Tōzoku I trust your judgement..." A simple thing to say, but all that is needed, after all the two had a strong bond, though that should be obvious given Rēku having obtained bankai already. Let Harime try, after all Rēku still had a few tricks up her sleeve. From in front and to her right sheets of sharpened ice slammed into her barrier of blades, and from the left a blade batted away at the bits even as one of Harime's feet gently tapped a crystal of ice. Yet none of the three had been the true assault. It was the flash of light that was Seishin hurtling downwards at Reku that had been, and there was no time to dodge. Pinned from three sides and struck from above, Seishin would expand just two feet before striking, enveloping both combatants, and the remainder of Reku's tiny blades. The young Tatasuko would hear one word just before it did, "Shikoromo(死衣 'Shroud')." Then everything froze.
As their battle concluded, then interrupted by the actions of the Instructor, Harime could not help but be slightly surprised as her ice dissipated, revealing the glowing pink shield that surrounded Reku. They had tied, and as her eyes turned away, looking to the crowd where her father stood, watching, she bit her lip as he turned away. Swallowing hard, her eyes turned back to Reku as she sheathed her blade where they stayed, bearly maintaining the facade of calm that defended her. "You're lucky I was holding back," she managed to say, disdain in her voice, before she turned away and strode gracefully from the arena—anger just barely apparent in the speed of her walk. What Reku wouldn't realize was that it was not just anger, but disappointment and sadness too. She had failed her father again, and she knew that going home now would only earn her his cold stare, or a long, harsh lecture. So instead she went back to her division, where she closed the sliding door of her room, and froze it shut. No one dared enter for the duration of that night.
[insert captain – Harime interaction?]
Still, those were happier days, two years ago, when they had not yet been at war. Things are different now, and whether her father recognizes her or not, Harime's primary concern is survival. If she can manage that with dignity, perhaps the man will notice her after all. Zanpakuto Spirit Personality: As cruel as the arctic winds, Seishin is unforgiving in her nature, never relenting and never giving any quarter. The spirit holds a certain fondness for her master though, hoping to help her where she can, but nonetheless she is a creature whose love is not expressed in gentleness, but through subtle cues hidden in her jagged icy exterior. It is in this way that Seishin has harshly pushed her counterpart to greater heights, though recognizing her talents and listening to her worries unlike her ungrateful father. Yes, Seishin is like a caring mother with a harsh sense of discipline and a strong penchant for tough love. With its emergence, a gentle frost settles upon her clothes, bathing them in a glowing white that freezes and remains. Abilities: Reitō seishin is a creature of order and purity, its master a being of stark and unyielding cold. These aspects mold its abilities, which lay within the glowing wisp of energy that drifts about its master's form. This wisp constantly emits tiny ice crystals, creating a trail in its wake. Should these crystals come into contact with anything 'cept air and their kin, they begin to tessellate, generating more and more crystals of ice, which rapidly engulf whatever they touch in beautiful fractals. However, this is not its only ability, for the frost may encroach upon the internal structure of what it touches, its ice forming within, rather than manifesting externally. In this case, the ice will attempt to bring its structure to a perfected state, increasing its durability and general effectiveness in any given area. Unfortunately, this perfection is fragile as the ice it is wrought from, and so it is doomed to destruction. Beyond the wisp's primary functions, it will move to defend its master, as it is after all a partial manifestation of Seishin, her sword spirit. In close range combat, should an opening be noted, or a command given, Seishin will strike, in an attempt to make contact and spread its ice on Harime's opponents. Seishin's wispy form, while appearing fragile, is in actually rather robust as it is composed of one 1/10th of its master's reiryoku. However, what makes it difficult to destroy is the method through which it generates ice. In essence, Seishin uses the reiryoku of which it is composed to draw in surrounding reishi. As it is drawn in, the reishi is condensed into minuscule frozen crystals—a process which is fueld by the reiryoku from which it was create--it is for this reason that Seishin is so difficult to destroy as the ice within its form is so dense as to be exceedingly difficult to shatter or melt. It should be noted that direct contact, especially if prolonged, will generate ice over a surface at a drastically increased rate and density in comparison to merely coming into contact with the crystals that the wisp sheds. Lastly, while Harime may command Seishin both through their bond, or vocally, Seishin's movement and behavior is not directly under its master's control and so it will move in the way that it deems most effective, rather than what Harime considers such. Should Seishin's form be destroyed, or dispersed by its master's command, the spirit may emerge once more from its sheath. However, each time it does so it requires at least 1/15th of Harime's reiryoku to do so. Techniques Tachi-mai([sub]裁ち枚[/sub] 'Cutting sheets'): Drawing a line through the air with her blade, the wisp following the motion, Harime creates a thin blade of ice. Once formed, she states the technique's name and taps the thin blade with her own, sending it flying forth at an impressive speed. As the ice sweeps through the air it leaves behind glistening crystals of ice identical to those which emanate from the wisp. While the thin sheet is fragile if struck, the ice is nonetheless capable of cutting through most mundane materials. Last among this technique's tricks is the almost invisibly thin thread of ice crystals which stretch from the point of contact, which drove the technique forth. This thread stretches all the way to Harime's blade, allowing for her to alter the trajectory of the sheet should she manipulate the thread with movements of her blade. It is a devious technique to match her zanpakuto's unforgiving and cruel nature. Hyōmaku([sub]雹幕[/sub] 'Hail curtain'): Holding her blade high in the air with its orientation vertical, the wisp gravitates to her blade then flies about it at high speed, the crystals that exude from its form creating anywhere between ten and forty-three shards of hail, each of a length of six inches. Following this, the wisp dissipates, staying as such for the duration of the technique. Should any of these shards strike a surface they erupt outwards to cover a three meters radius of space in a mere two seconds. Each of these shards, no matter their amount is connected to a tiny thread of ice crystals in the same manner is Tachi-mai. Not least of this technique's strengths is its reaction to assault should it be struck by energy. When such occurs a given shard will begin to grow rapidly, making it much more difficult to immediately destroy should the reiryoku be designed to damage or destroy. This effect is one of the results of using the wisp's condensed form to create attacks. Shimo no genzen([sub]霜の厳然[/sub] 'Grave of frost'): After freezing any measure of ground-space with the ice of Reitō seishin, Harime is able to call upon this technique at the cost of one fifth of her reiryoku. Upon the activation of the technique all surfaces coated, or frozen by, Seishin's ice undergo a rapid transformation as the growth of the ice is temporarily amplified several times. In addition to simply causing any patches of ice to increase greatly in size and density, Shimo no genzen may also cause spikes and pillars of ice to erupt from all laden surfaces. While Harime has not yet mastered this technique, it is capable of additionally refracting light between portions of ice, making it a blinding technique to be within the midst of. Furthermore, should she gain more control over its formation she is capable of aiming the various protrusions. While aware of these facts, she has not yet attained the control necessary to execute said functions thus limiting the effective power of this technique. Shikoromo([sub]死衣[/sub] 'Shroud'): Utilizing the wisp of her shikai Harime is capable of creating a dome with a radius of 8 meters max. This dome--or sphere--has two functions, it may either act as a defense, creating a super dense layer of Seishin's ice on the perimeter of the structure, or an attack, instead filling in the barrier entirely with ice. Regardless, this technique requires roughly 3/10ths of her reiryoku each time it is used due to the sheer density of ice and the speed at which it is generated. Tsuki no namida([sub]月の涙[/sub] 'Tears of the moon'): Perhaps the most powerful of her techniques, Tsuki no namida is an ability that is barely within reach of the young shinigami. By giving Seishin 3/5ths of her total reiryoku the spirit's manifestation rapidly expands, dissipating outwards for ten meters in every direction. As this occurs all moisture, and free reishi, in the air is frozen into tiny marbles of ice, which remain suspended for the duration of the technique. Each of these many marbles is connected to Harime's blade via minuscule threads of translucent blue reiryoku. Currently Harime can only maintain this area for one minute before Seishin collapses back into its normal state. Following its use Shikoromo, Shimo no genzen, and Hyōmaku are disabled for a duration of four minutes. Tsuki no namida, when mastered can last a total of eight minutes during which the tiny crystals of ice that coat Harime's clothes resist the touch of their kin, making any portion of her body covered in clothes temporarily immune to the effects of her zanpakuto. It should be noted that this however comes at a steep cost, as the moment the technique ends, the ice on her clothes will begin to freeze through them and touch her flesh, gradually increasing her abilities till she is entirely frozen in ice. The only escape from this inevitably fatal effect is to seal her zanpakuto, and once she has done so she cannot release it for three minutes. Bankai: Not Achieved.
