These are exactly the kind of religious tensions that I wanted to foster >:D
...in the IC... between characters of fictional religions.
Earlier back there was a brief discussion between the three of you guys about being careful not to offend anyone with even the very mention of rape. I respect this kind of sensitivity but I think it's worth noting that comments such as the one above could be equally offensive to ones who identify with the so called "real life equivalent".
Completely true, and I'm sorry that I myself did not point out when I replied to the comment, that the Church of Light (COL) has no 'real life equivalent'. True, I did say this earlier:
I'll be adding more information shortly, and you're welcome to fill in any blanks I leave. I took inspiration from the rise of Catholicism and the decline of paganism and pantheons. There are many similarities between the Church of Light and early Catholicism, but its certainly in no way a carbon copy and I certainly don't want to offend anyone xP
But I need to make it clear that they are not the same. They have similarities yes, but The COL has similarities with several religions both real and fictional. Monotheism is certainly not an uncommon trait in religions, and neither are scriptures. The inspiration I took was about the shifting balance of beliefs, not the actual beliefs themselves. In regards to Rivaan's comments about killing people in video games, I do think that it is unfair to say he aimed this at any real life religion. Besides, I can't think of any video games that sound like this. Still, Denalz is completely right to say that even early Catholicism did a lot of good, and that it was only the bad that was really sensationalised. The unfortunate truth is that this sort of sensationalisation still occurs today, with western media notably portraying all Muslims as terrorists. But the reality is that the vast majority of people belonging to religions, and indeed the vast majority of those that don't, are decent kind loving people and you should not paint everyone with the same brush just because the actions of a few. The sad truth is that yes, there have been and continue to be horrible acts performed in the name of religion, but as Partisan said, that means that those people are evil not their religion. I think everyone in this RP understands that. That is exactly the case with the fictional religions in this RP too. The wiki post and notable events section can certainly portrays a bad image, but as our missionary and baptist characters prove, the religions foster much more good than bad; its just that not all people see it that way. I want this to be the end of the argument, at least were the OOC is concerned. No more references or discussion about real life religions, because they have nothing to do with the RP. If anyone has any further problems then they should PM me, and we will leave the OOC free of bitterness. This is normally the part where I say "Kiss and make up", but I don't think that is necessary. We're all friends here and we all want to get back to talking about lighter topics like... rape? *Sigh*
