Claudia Desmond Match Office The girl had been reading in her dorm room, alone like usual, but still covered nearly completely to hide her body from her own eyes just as she often hid it from others; the book was heavy and long, the perfect escape from the real world again though the phone call to her had startled her out of the fantasy world of the novel. She reached over and grabbed it, just in time for it to end her and her cell phone to vibrate next to her leg and the text message from Tamaki to pop up on her home screen. She’d been matched. She sighed, quietly, as she stood and left the phone on the couch when she went to shower before the meeting. She couldn’t look at herself as she did, the scars on her body repulsive and deep, some fresh and as she moved a large cut ripped open on her side and blood started to drip down her side again, though she didn’t move to stop it. She cleaned out the wound and when she got out of the shower she dressed it appropriately. The dark haired girl dried and dressed in a pair of jeans and a long sleeve grey shift, boots and a sweater with a scarf around her neck to hide the bandage beneath it. She pulled up her hood and left her room locked behind her, the phone still on her couch. Claudia walked through the campus, going almost completely unnoticed with her heavy closing hiding her body from view. Her hands shoved deep in her pockets, her eyes followed the stone and grass she walked on between buildings, the distant blue hiding behind a fringe of deep, black hair and thick eyes lashes that cast a shadow over her cheekbones. She pressed her arm against her side as she walked up the stairs, feeling the fresh stitches tug on her flesh and she clenched her teeth, her jaw tightening behind the scarf that covered the lower half of her face. She remembered when she could wear a skirt and walk out in the light without being so afraid, she loved to talk to people but she hadn’t done that for over a year now at least. At the third floor of the building she looked down the hall at the match office were several students were chatting or waiting to be called inside. Two boys rushed passed them all, nearly knocking aside one of the other boys though there was a larger one with him and he didn’t fall. She recognized most of the people around as students from the school and people who weren’t so afraid, or rather, they were ignorant. Young lady Desmond took a deep breath and began a brisk walk down the hallway, just in time to hear them yelling about being matched to the same person, loud and obviously annoyed by it; by the time she’d reached the door the man inside had spoken to the two of them. Tamaki stood and laughed quietly where he leaned back on the desk, ready to call in the next couple when the two barged in. He’d seen it coming when he and Mrs. Yoshiida had talked about the results the three of them had gotten paired together by the system they had. It was a near fail proof program though sometimes things like this happened but no matter what they did they always came up. Even when one was removed, the other still came up. “No mistake boys.” He said, looking over their shoulders toward where the girl stood in the doorway, clearly terrified by the way she was looking at them. It was taking everything she had right then not to turn and run away from them and never look back. Men couldn’t be trusted, she knew that and yet she was here for some reason. Why was she here?
