"Hello, Kate. I heard that you had wanted to relax here?" Kate watched as an owl flew through the forest in search of its prey. Silently is glided through the air and landed upon a branch where it observed with scrutiny the forest floor. Nearby a field mouse scurried along in hopes to escape danger but unfortunately for it the little mouse would soon become a meal. The owl swooped down off its perch and snatched the mouse off the ground and into the air. ”I wish I didn't see that”, Kate thought as she witnessed the owl devour the rodent. Just as that was concluded, Kate's body sensed a presence beside it and her consciousness flooded back to her corporal form. ”Alright I'll go to sleep. I was done scanning the forest anyway”, she said before turning to face who she thought was Aaron. To her surprise it was actually Marci, ”Oh hey Marci I was just...how long were you watching me?”. Kate realised that if Marci was there from the beginning she might have seen her hands glow slightly when she made the connection with the forest. ”I got here when Aaron got here.” Marci said, noticing what Kate said. Scanning the forest? ”Scanning the forest? What do you mean by that?” She asked. She had seen Kate’s hands glow when she had arrived. Had that been her power? ’It seems possible. Very possible,’. she thought. Kate's mind panicked as she tried to come up with an excuse as to why she said that but all she could come up with was, ”Oh yeah what I meant by that was I was just looking around. I thought this clearing would make a good handout spot, don't you?”. Kate was never that good of a liar, especially when a cover story need to be constructed in so short of a time. It was only when Kate glanced down that she noticed the grass she had rested her hands in were clung to her hands, a result of the bonding. Kate tried her best to shake off the grass without arousing suspicion and during this whole time a single thought entered her head, ”Where is Aaron when I need him!” ”I suppose it would be.” Marci said, and turned to see the tree that she had been hiding behind. Okay, that made sense, but wasn’t there a glowing, or was she simply going blind after all these years of isolation? If there was a glowing, what other than her power would be the cause of it? If she was going blind, or more insane than she already is, the glowing was still a weird sight. ”Could you explain that glowing for me, though?” ”Glowing? Uh what glowing?, Kate was desperately trying to talk her way out but she couldn't think of a good enough excuse. ”What do I do? What do I do? I can't run because she might tell people about me. I can't camouflage myself she'll freak out!...I guess there's only one option. Hopefully I don't regret this”, once Kate made her decision she took a deep breath and calmed her racing heart. ”Alright, Marci can you keep a secret?”, Kate asked with a nervous quiver in her voice. This could possibly be the worst mistake of her life. If her cover was blown she’d have to leave town, get a new identity, start a new life, and probably lose the only chance of meeting people like her. "Keep a secret, huh?", Marci said, thinking about the secret. Would it be a situation in which Kate told her a secret, and Marci would have to tell her one as well? If it is, then she wasn't. Maybe in a different language, she knew all of them by now. She'll be nice, and try not to treat her roommate like shit. "Hmm...sure." She said, hoping that it was that it was her power, and that would mean that Marci's assumption had been correct. 'One day, you'll regret telling me whatever you're going to tell me...' Kate took a deep breath, the last time she told anyone what she really was it was with Jessie and even then it was a huge gamble. Still she saw no other way and after a moment a silence she confessed, ”I...I'm not human. I'm an elf, a city elf to be exact. I came here to learn more about who I am” Elf, huh? Was something bad about being an elf these days? Marci could remember back when she was more active, and she had seen a ton of elves around. ”Oh, really?” She said, not sounding surprised at all. She snickered. The snickering turned into chuckling, and the chuckling turned into laughter. ’Is this what elves have become these days? How sad. I’ve never heard of city elves before. She looks nothing like the kinds I have seen before.’ She thought, her attention returning to her roommate. ”City elf, huh?” She said, attempting to cease the laughter. ”What’s the difference between them and the ones I saw-” Oops. ’FUCK!’ The laughter confused Kate somewhat, did Marci think she was crazy. For a moment that was her assumption until Marci mentioned seeing other elves, ”Wait Wait Wait you know about us?! How? For how long? Are there others at Orean?”. Kate was ecstatic, if Marci knew about her kind then the danger of being found out was no longer. Okay. That was nice. Kate was too focused on the fact that Marci knew about elves. Maybe if she was so focused on this, she wouldn’t notice a thing about how old Marci has to be to have seen, well, a lot of elves. ”It isn’t common knowledge yet? I found lots a long time ago. I don’t know if there are any others at Orean, maybe some could be nearby, you never know. All I remember is that they looked nothing like you do, and that they for sure didn’t have any blonde brothers or went to a school called Orean Cause before. When I saw them, they were within the woods near my village, before I- no, wait, that story is...too long.” What a fucking save. 10/10. I suppose she didn’t expect Kate to be interested in the story of her village at all, and if she wasn’t, then that was perfectly fine. If she was, it’d be time to remember her Finnish again. ”Village? Where exactly are you from?, Kate began to wonder just who exactly Marci was. There was a good chance she was one of the students here with powers like her. Well not exactly like her, as Marci just said there are no other elves. That fact entered her head and the reality that her whole reason for being here was pointless. ”...well this has been a terrible end to my day SHIIIT, SHE'S INTERESTED NOW. Okay. Okay. Calm down, Marci. Stop sweating. Just...tell her in Finnish. "Well...Olen mitä on nyt Hereford . Olennoita, joka tekisopimuksen paholaisen kanssa saadakseen voimani , ja minä paloi oman kylän maahan." Hooray, She remembered the old language. Now she could get on with this, and make sure that Kate didn't understand a single word that she said. "Did you understand any of that?" ”No but why? What are you hiding? The only reason you'd say whatever that was the way you did was to hide something from me. Marci I just told you by biggest secret ever, at least give me the same trust I gave you” "And don't you see how much of an idiot you could are for doing that? I cannot trust anyone with my origins. Anyone. Not even myself, did you notice that I almost told you it three times? See, you may have your biggest secret ever, giving me a ton of trust, but the kind of stuff that I keep away from everybody is an even bigger one, requiring the same amount of trust as, for example, anyone in 'The Twenty-One Balloons' on Krakatoa allowing Professor Sherman to escape the island with a ton of diamonds, which were and I believe still are worth a lot of money, and it would bring people over to the volcanic island-- I'm sure you haven't read it before, but oh well-- I really just can't tell anybody." "I'm quite sorry for this, but all I'll tell you is that I lived in what is now Hereford, and I was around...about...three...hundred...thousand years ago-fuck." Marci mentally slapped herself for not realizing this, and began to head in the direction of the dormitory. 'fuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckfuckFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUFJDKCCJDJDMEISMKSIMMSMSJSMSNSNSNS' Why was lying suddenly so hard? Did Marci want to be on semi-good terms with her roommate, was there some holy item weakening her? Or was it just that after so many years, she just lost her touch, and thus becoming weaker by the second? Did the deal somehow wear off, even though it said that it lasted forever? Had the Devil become less interested in her, and that was how the deal started to wear off? Why did she have so many questions, why was she so interested into this deal? Was it the fact that she thought that all the years would catch up to her, and she would finally die, or die due to the loss of immortality? ... Time to go to sleep.
