Ecen, an ancient land steeped in a history full of conflict and warfare. A land of man and many natural wonders. In recent years the land has been quiet, while bloodshed occurs every day it is not a full scale war, King Ethan Tirius has ruled for the last twelve years, his reign well regarded despite several tough decisions, personal conflicts and even a war the king has gone through. Magnificent creatures roam the land while the kingdom of man goes on, the rich flaunting their wealth and the poor just trying to survive. 

King Ethan's reign began right after his father, Aldrick died of a heart attack. Immediately following his crowning as king at the age of 22, the kingdom came under attack and a conflict known as the Grand Usurper's War began, which would rage on for two years. The war began after a wealthy noble man named Branton Orwen betrayed the kingdom in an attempt to take it in his own name, dissatisfied with many of the previous king's decisions. 

He gained a following of fellow nobles which pledged allegiance to the usurper Branton. After launching an assault with a large army of loyal soldiers and mercenaries on one of the cities from a base in the far north, the King immediately went into action, becoming a top general in the army to defend the kingdom.

It was an even conflict at the start, but it tilted in the way of kingdom after some brilliant decisions by the King and his commanders. The war came to an end after Branton was captured and executed alongside the other nobles loyal to the usurper. 

In recent days Ecen has been filled with conversation about a mysterious occurrence which drew the immediate attention of the king and a select few that were able to actually witness it. A strange noise filled the land, only falling into the ears of a few 'privileged' people, most notably the king, accompanying the noise was an eerie vision of fire and death, this was finally followed by an echoing roar of dragon. The occurrence was gone in an instant, and it has since been referred to as 'The Sounding'. 

The King sent issued an announcement which carried through the land, ordering all who witnessed the Sounding to come to his castle in the capitol city, Highmont, immediately. These select few are in for many surprises along with an extravagant journey they could barely comprehend...

[h3]Plot[/h3]
The characters in this RP will be a group of adventurers on a quest grander than any of them expected. They come from all walks of life, what they were before does not matter, only what they who they will become.

[h3]Ecen[/h3]

Ecen is a beautiful land filled with many terrains and weather conditions. The southern coastlines are beautiful beaches which sit near the deep blue oceans which surround Ecen on all sides. These oceans are the means of survival to many who make a living fishing or traveling upon them. A large mountain range known as the Truesh Peaks run across the southern part of the continent, unlike their northern counterpart this mountain range is not frozen. These mountains serve as a place of work as multiple mines lay along the range.

The land to the wast of the Truesh Peaks is fertile grassland, farms are a common site in this area. To the far south sits a large, lush forest which runs along the bottom of the continent until the bottom of the mountain range. The other side of Ecen is a harsh desert which stretches from north to south, on the far eastern side of the land is more livable land with a city on the coasline, Griffinmont. The capitol sits on the south western coastline on the lower side of the bay, across from it is another city, Ironwood. Towns of varying size and population are spread across the rest of the lower section of Ecen.

To the north is the towering mountain range where few venture to as it is a death trap filled with vicious beasts and even more viscous weather. It is said that dragons still thrive in these mountains, but none have been confirmed for years, only rumors and vague mentions. The most notable feature in the massive mountain range (The Frigid Heights) is the remains of an ancient kingdom, said to be of an extinct race which controlled all of Ecen and even beyond it. 

[h3]Magic:[/h3]
Magic does exist in this RP and characters are able to use it, however the magical arts are considered taboo throughout the kingdom and looked down by many people. For one to be able to use magic they must have been born with the ability. Outside of the kingdom is where you’ll find many of the mages in communities where magic is not looked down upon and in some places even encouraged.

Magic itself comes in several forms, first and foremost there is elemental magic which includes acts such as tossing fireballs, lightning bolts or even on the highest levels, summoning earthquakes or lightning storms. Another type of magic is the healing kind, either the mage heals themselves or another person. Then there are more taboo types of magic such as the shapeshifting variety which allows the user to turn their form into that of another creature such as a mouse, deer, bear or even a dragon. Finally, arguably the most immoral, and as such, feared type of magic, Black magic, which allows the user a wide range of spells, many of the painful variety such as choking the life out of an opponent, tossing them like ragdolls, controlling their mind, ripping them limb from limb and more.


[h3]Technology:[/h3]
Swords, axes, shields, all those types found in other fantasy universes. Technology itself is most comparable to Medieval ages.  You’ll find most commonly swords, shields and bows wielded by people throughout the land, however crossbows also exist and are a more expensive alternative to a bow.

Leather is by far the most common armor type, though armors made of other metals such as iron and steel exist as well. The difference being that the metal armors are much heavier and require far more training than the lighter, less bulky leather types.


[h3]Rules[/h3]
1. No godmodding, metagaming, etc. 
2. Minimum two paragraphs, proper grammar and spelling, character development and more. Also, absolutely no one liners. I expect at least two solid paragraphs per IC post, though more is always welcome.
3. Expect swearing, violence, gore and very dark plot points. Of course the guild rules still apply. Keep romance PG-13, so fade to black any sex scenes.
4. Original characters only, also no 'perfect' ones neither. People have flaws in real life, they do in this RP as well.
5. No fighting on the OOC. I'll happily help serve any disputes.
6. Maximum of two characters per person, also, your characters can die.
7. While this RP is set in a fantasy universe it is still based in realism. An arrow to the leg will hurt a ton and at least cause your character to adopt a limp. And while characters can be exceptional fighters they are not superhumans, taking on an entire army with just a dagger is great way to get killed.
8. Please don't just disappear from the RP. If you are going to be unavailable to post then please tell me beforehand. If you disappear without a word for a week then you will be removed from the RP.
