SOLDIER base. The front half and majority of the compound was surrounded by an 8 foot high stone wall with razorwire over the top. The main gate, opening on Main street, was flanked by two small towers. A guard house stood just up the road to check ID's on anyone requesting entry. The western half of the compound encircled a small airport and 2 long runways that went out into the airfield behind the base. The far fields were enclosed, but merely by a 13 foot chainlink fence with more razorwire. The place was constantly lighted, of course, and cameras silently recorded every possible entry. The headquarters, and weapons depot were also under heavy surveillance for obvious reasons. Mithias approached from the trees outside the wall and watched a guard walk methodically from post to post in his nightly routine. Suddenly his communicator went off. "Camera out in section 17, near mess hall. Agent Smith, that's your detail. Please investigate with caution." The guard stopped for a moment, then changed direction, heading back to where Mithias had just shot out one of the cameras with his pistol. Somewhere on base a dog started barking. In HQ, two agents were hoping for another quiet night. "What the hell?? Jerry. We just lost another camera." "The fuck?" Jerry got up and looked at the monitors. "Turn number 57 to see." He waited while his friend tried to get a view on what had happened. Suddenly a third screen went blank, then a fourth. Jerry's face went white with fear. "...we just lost seven cameras." "Call the General! Now!" Jerry said as he pulled himself together. "Quickly! They're heading right for us!" But it was too late. Mithais was already inside the base, slaying armed guards one after another, staying off camera, shooting out lights, and moving faster than the eye could follow like a wind of death toward the HQ building. He slipped a stolen keycard in the door scanner. "Hello? General Fenix sir? We have a situation. Systematically downed surveillance in sections..." A gasp and some gunfire is heard. "You bloodsucking bastard! No!!" The phone goes silent. The vampire's eyes glowed a familiar red as he hesitated, staring at the phone that had fallen to the floor. The room was dark except for the light of a number of monitor screens. Mithias listened for a voice on the other end of the line. He and Bedivere didn't have much time.
