Name: Lyle Matterson Age: 14 Gender: Male Hometown: Lilycove City, Hoenn Appearance: Lyle looks...like a 14 year old boy i.e. thin, lanky, no meat on his bones, lightweight, things like that. What he does have is...a slightly less than middling body height, only a couple of inches shorter than he should be at his age (he's 5"2). His hair leans towards a light blue, and is currently at medium length when brushed back, reaching to his neck. His skin tone could best be described as only slightly tan, while his eyes would be called mud brown. Clothing-wise, he's not picky, usually just choosing what fits and leaving it at that. Generally speaking, he wears a soft t-shirt with thin, zigzaging spikes rising from the bottom (one with a white coloring with alternating blue and black spikes, and another with a red coloring with green spikes) and some shorts (in blue and black, respective to the shirts). Usually, he loathes shoes due to how odor-filled they can get while walking so he's gotten himself some sandals...still, his mother has insisted on him having a pair of running shoes, having him take some. He currently leaves those and the consecutive socks in his backpack, having no use for them at the moment. Finally, he wears a blue and black checkered handkerchief around his neck, a likeness that he shares with his pokemon Drumroll. Personality: Lyle is very...excitable person. He has a large chance of getting hyped for most everything outside of non-travel related physical labor, particularly on the topics of pokemon, food, and new places, and tends to rush through tasks to the possible detriment of actually doing it properly. The only time he seems to be universally calm (outside of the aforementioned non-travel related physical labor) is when he's studying pokemon, leading to his friends theory that he rushes everything just so he can have more time doing field research. He's usually as kind as he can manage in spite of said excitement though and generally accepting, except when it comes to negative opinions on fighting types...or that some pokemon are naturally less useful than others. Though he was born into a Breeder family, Lyle seems to have qualms about some of the individuals in the business, mostly due to the pick and choose nature that abounds with some of the profession's groups, in spite of any love and caring from the breeders themselves. Due to that, he's decided to focus his attention elsewhere, using his pokemon knowledge for training instead, though he has been recently looking into becoming a pokemon professor. In spite of that, he doesn't hate breeders, it's just the ones that focus on competitiveness that he takes issue with. Profession: Trainer by profession, but looking into becoming a more "hands on" Professor, ala Professor Birch. Talents: Decent knowledge of pokemon weaknesses and abilities, good at cooking, and able to understand the intent of a pokemon's actions. Inventory: $3000 10 pokeballs 5 potions 5 antidote (because that's the only thing he and Drumroll can agree sucks) Sleeping bag 1 bag Poké food 3 lava cookies 1 Pokenav 1 change of clothes, shoes included. Starter Pokemon: A level 5 Makuhita named Drumroll, with the ability Guts and a Jolly nature. Currently, it knows Tackle and Sand attack. Wears a large blue and black checkered handkerchief around it's neck, only with the knot being in front. Biography: Lyle's mother has been a pokemon breeder since she was 20 or so, so he was basically born into the business of breeding. Due to her chosen profession, Lyle grew up constantly around pokemon, with his mother flipping between raising her clients pokemon and raising him near seemlessly. Of course, it was hard sometimes, with her having to focus less on Lyle and more on her stock, but eventually they made it through and when he was old enough, he started helping out to lessen the load. One of his main jobs when he started helping out was to basically run around with the eggs in a backpack until they hatched (well, what else would you have a young, hyperactive kid do? Handle poison types? Besides, it's good exercise). Lyle was always the adventurous type so it was hard to keep him on one route, especially when he saw a pokemon that he had never seen before. Still, she found a way to keep him in line, mainly by using the age old trick of bribing him with sweets. Truth be told, Lyle liked helping his mother and learning about pokemon...he just didn't like the attitudes of some of his mothers clients and associates. Most were nice enough, but there were a few who were unilaterally arrogant and annoying. Of course, usually his mom put lightweight pokemon in so when they hatched, they didn't weigh him down too much...that didn't mean that she didn't make mistakes though. One day, he found his backpack to be heavier than usual...which he didn't question and instead proceeded to go about his business of running. He had completed his third lap of the place, pretending that he was a Skarmory flitting about, when the weight expanded and shifted, causing him to become unbalanced and fall down. Turns out, his mother had absent-mindedly put a Makuhita egg in his pack that day, as he found out rather painfully. Needless to say, it wasn't a pleasant meeting between the two what with it confused and him annoyed. Still, despite the annoyance, he brought it back to his mom and got his reward, happy to have his hands clean of the issue...or himso he thought. As it happens, that makuhita was to be the newest in the lineup of one contestants team in a contest...unfortunately, saud contestant ended up having to back out of the deal, leaving Lyle and his mom with a makuhita that they didn't know what to do with. Instead of trying to pawn it off on the next sucker that came in they (or rather, lyle's mom) decided to keep him and treat the pokemon like family until such a time that they could guarantee it a good home. Of course, Lyle was opposed to it at first but eventually, after a bit of convincing and some time, he came around to it. Of course, he didn't come around to liking the makuhita until later, when they got lost in the woods for a "day" (two hours and they were naught but twenty feet from Lilycove. It was just hidden by some bushes) and buried the hatchet. After that, they were rarely seen separate, calling themselves brothers (implied in Drumrolls case) and sticking by each other through everything. Soon enough, Lyle hit 14 and his want to leave and explore, to learn more than he already knew had grown to a point where he couldn't stand it anymore. With that, he went and asked his mother about it and, reluctantly, she agreed that it may have been time for him to go and explore the world like most do. Of course, he had already lived in Hoenn all of his life so he felt that he had already explored enough of it and implored his mom to allow him to journey around in another region. At first she refused, but eventually, given some time to think, she got in contact with her brother on Kanto, seeing if he could keep an eye on her son. After she got that guarantee, she let him go, letting him take Drumroll with him and start on his new adventure, but making sure he could stay in contact. His uncle picked him up at the port, taking him over to his home in Kanto and letting him and Drumroll rest before sizing him up and seeing where he should start. Eventually, after a quick questioning, his uncle decided where he thought Lyle should start. It was easy, as he said, to pinpoint where to start, what with his fighting type and all. And so he directed Lyle and Drumroll to Pallet Town, to start their quest to learn more about the pokemon of the world. Notes/Other: The only reason that he's allowed to go to Kanto is because he has an uncle there, in Vermilion City, who's agreed to watch out for him in his mother's stead. He wasn't exactly friendless back in Hoenn; he left some human friends behind. It's just that he interacted with his poké friends more than his human friends on a day-to-day basis.
