[/quote] It's actually part of the lore; if an undead person starts to lose their sense of purpose, he or she slowly starts to forget things until going insane. I feel like the game's reputation is kind of misleading; if you've ever played a "Classicvania"-style Castlevania game, it's basically that in 3D. If you're patient and pay attention, it's really just a moderately challenging game with a decent difficulty curve (which admittedly clashes a lot with most releases of the time). A good many players will unfortunately just charge in swords blazing, though, missing all the tells for traps and enemies and mislabeling it as "trial and error gameplay." That's actually one of the reasons I didn't like Dark Souls 2, come to think of it. Too many insta-death traps with no way to see them coming outside of messages from other players.
