Oh, I see what you mean. I could have done that in the first place, but I didn't want to overcomplicate the banner where you wouldn't even be able to see which character they were. If I were to do what you suggested, I think it would ruin it. Not saying that what you suggested is bad per-se, just that what I'd eventually do is ruin what is already a wonderful banner. I will, however, do the first thing you suggested and put some kind of background in the white space..well, if it looks satisfactory, that is.
