On a different note, since large swathes of the Africa-like penisula are not taken, would you mind if I would increase the size of my colonies a bit? Iwas only that conservative there to give a chance for other nations to claim colonies and generally allow a nation to exist over there.

Well, aside from its near-unneccessarily complex methods, alchemy also differs from chemistry and material sciences that their art is highly secretive.
Alchemists make wows of secrecy and they don't communicate between circles.
I even planned to mention alchemists are using hyponotism on their members to make them literally unable to tell the secret to anyone but people they were conditioned to.
I didn't invent this to keep Yllendthyr's tech secret or anything. I don't mind if other people use mithril, especially not if they get it from me via trade.
I invented this as a means of developing on them.
Overall alchemy is actually not that different from common sciences. They just got lucky and invented a number of methods without completely unerstanding it. That's why they use complex methods and such. Just like how Damascus Steel predates our research on CNT-Steel matrix by many centuries because they used a plant which had something close to carbon-nanotubes.
Think of alchemy as the same. It's a secret only circulating between a small group and if a "proper" scientist would know the methods he may develop a far less complex measure.
Mithril is nothing magical. I basically replaced Titanium with the less dense Mithralium and devised some means to improve it to match steel. That's all.
