Pretty much. When it comes to the fighting it'll be more about how effectively you can figure out how to battle with the Jaeger you're in, rather than what stats say should happen. After all the [i]Cherno Alpha[/i] was technically hopelessly obsolete by the time the events of the film happened (being a type-1 Jaeger surrounded by type-3s and 4s), but the piloting team was still keeping it a viable front line unit right up until the last days of the conflict.

The [i]Cataclysm[/i] is also an upgrade to the older machine, and as the stats are based on the [i]Cherno Alpha[/i] it may yet  prove itself to be far superior to the expectations held for it.
