Grey has... issues adapting to a changing battlefield, and especially when something doesn't go according to plan. especially when orders are (to him anyway) ignored for no reason. As a Golem, Grey is very obedient. He cannot even fathom disobeying orders, and the fact that there was tactical reasoning only strengthened his resolve to 'restore order'. He also thinks Athalus is a dirty coward, and was counting on him to sprint away, not (reasonably I may add) sit mostly still in shock. He has basically misjudged everything.
