He doesn't all ways carry it, because his claw is a powerful weapon in its own right, however he does keep it close so he can use it when he needs. No, the sword does not tranform, his arm is his transforming weapon. (Spoiler Alert: I was thinking about having his sword break, forcing him to make a new one.)
