A guided missile destroyer that takes on enemy capital ships from a distance would be pretty heavily armoured, not necessarily the fastest, and bristling with long-range weapons. An escort destroyer, that interdicts enemy fighters/missiles would probably be very small and light, not necessarily the fastest, but have good computers and lots of PD weapons. A scout destroyer might be small and lightly armoured, but with an upgraded sensor suite and proportionally more/larger weapons. Basically, don't get too caught up in trying to standardise based on the example!
