Uh, sure, why not? Can we do that? I've never tried. And if we can, we could probably put on teams and stuff too. 
For us here in 'Merica, well...I'm not surprised you thought the guy sounded different. TV shows and movies mostly portray just one kind of accent, but since this is a big country, there are plenty. People from Boston sound different from New York sound different from Wisconsin sound different from Texas. Mostly in TV shows and movies, you'd get a general American accent, which widely encompasses the spectrum, or a gross exaggeration, as in "country" sounding people.
