I know my geography pretty well. I'm not one of those people who study it, but point to a map and I'll probably be able to tell you what the country is. 
Also it helps that there was a vote on whether or not Scotland should be its own country fairly recently. But to be clear, is Southern Ireland its own country? And if so, why don't we refer to it as Southern Ireland?
