DnD bores me soo much. Like... (I was 16 or 17. No I was defiantly 16. Math isn't my strong suit, but I do know how to stack multipliers in rpgs. It was how I broke DA:O easily before doing the second area of the game. As in the treaties.)
The Star Wars system is easier. It uses dice which tell you if you succeed, gain an advantage or gain a triumph compared to others which give you failures, despairs and threats. Balance the rolls against each other, if you have more successes than failures you pass, if you have more advantage than despair you gain a bonus and if you have more triumphs than threats you do something miraculous. With this it's possible for someone to succeed in a task, but gain despair at the same time. No maths involved, but as GM you do have to be able to think quickly on your feet as to what exactly the outcome of the dice roll would mean to a character. For instance tonight someone picking an electronic lock succeeded with despair, and so the door was opened but they received a shock from the lock and their hand was numb while dealing with the people in the next room.
