I'm playing it that the Architect is still alive, in which case he's gathering the darkspawn under Amaranthine and 'educating' them in how to behave in civilised company. The only ones we'd be likely to encounter may be a few stragglers, nothing the party shouldn't be able to deal with.

Unless I'm lying and deliberately trying to get the party to run straight into an Archdemon. :lol
