They are known for their full dedication to their King or Queen - as far as they are concerned, his or her word is law. Though the Kings and Queens have historically been kind. The Queen and royal family have no surname because one of the first Queens abandoned her's, saying, "Surnames are an allegiance to houses. I serve only the people! You may call me Queen Thalia of Loran!" There are many festivals throughout the year, celebrating the beginning and end of the four seasons. There are celebrations on many past King's and Queen's birthdays to honor their contribution to their great nation. Women are, of course, seen as equals to men, neither are dominant. When a Queen passes on, the eldest of the High Prince or High Princess take the crown. Currently, High Prince Thren is the eldest, though if he were to refuse the crown or die before the Queen has resigned, then the crown would go to High Princess Sophia. Recently, the royal family has found it difficult to make sure that all of their inhabitants have food and shelter, as a result, the beggars have turned to violence to survive. The Queen understands their pain, but also understand that it is not the solution and has devoted a notable amount of soldiers to guarding the nations trade caravans. Military: Traditionally one of the Princes, usually the High Prince, is a military official. High Prince Thren the Bold is one of the commanding generals for the armies of Lora. Princesses may also be, as High Princess Sophia is currently, with her brother, near the top of the military command. In the Lorathian military, honor is held above all else, they would never ambush. They take no prisoners, for prison is a disgraceful place, the Lorathians would rather honor their foe in death than shaming them with capture. Horses are not used for battle. The kingdom never seems to get a strong batch of them, they are used for ceremony, commanders occasionally ride one during a battle, but that horse was probably bought from another nation. Lora's military is lead by their generals, on their field. Individual units are lead by commanders and captains, these are not nobles, they are those who have been schooled in the military academy. Even the Prince and Princess attended the military academy. As far as the people of Lora are concerned, nobles have no place in the military. For a soldier to go into a battle, they are required to have at least six months of, non stop, training. Economy: Lora is known for its mountain ranges and its production of some of the strongest and beautiful metals in the continent. People come from many other nations just to see them, many also come to buy the ore and metals. Much of the nation's productions goes toward the military, they are rarely ill equipped. The ores, produced by the mountains, make Lora's military fortifications like an impenetrable shell. Lora only trades with nations if both can equally gain from the transaction. Reputation: Lorathians are known to be a kind and honorable people. They are known for their beautiful walls and other fortifications and how the military patrols every city. "Never do anything wrong in Lora, they'll kill you! They don't even have prisons!" That is only have true, there are no prisons, but a criminal won't be sentenced to death for anything they do, shame does play a role. History: The nation of Loran is about four hundred year old. The nation formed when miners from the mainland of the continent heard of the ores in the mountains in Seyan. They moved, forming a town which became a city, which became a city state and eventually broke off as a people. The original city was called, Ithen and remains as the capital. Though, the city is now known as Ithen, the City of Stone. In Loran’s early years as a nation, many houses were formed and they made up it’s government. This didn’t last long, House Ergmar rose to power, over the rest, through force. The was not seen well by the people, they began a revolt in Ithen, which quickly moved to the other major settlements. House Tamilia took charge of the revolt and staged the overthrow of House Ergmar. House Tamilia’s leader at the time was Thalia Tamilia, she became the Queen of Loran. It was her who said the famous words, “Surnames are an allegiance to houses. I serve only the people! You may call me Queen Thalia of Loran!” From that point, Loran grew into the nation, the rest of the world sees today.
