I was imagining a hybrid of both of the scenarios you mentioned. As a whole, I would like to just see where it leads, but there are a few things that I'm planning on dropping in - I've had a few ideas such as Sky-ships that Dana wishes to see, the brother being kidnapped by some sort of evil people, etc...
