Lycanthropes (Batillus)
Lycanthropy is a disease or a hereditary condition that causes humanoids to change form, usually into a hybrid humanoid-animal state. A lycanthrope, called nightwalkers by some, is an individual who possesses this condition. Some lycanthropes are in control of their ability to transform and others are not. Most lycanthropes have some empathy with animals with which they share their forms. Most lycanthropes are humans or elves. Superficially, lycanthropes resemble their original species but with the head of the specific animal whose shape they are cursed with. Lycanthropes can disguise themselves somewhat through their shape shifting abilities, either taking on a form almost identical to a humanoid but with subtle details revealing their true nature such as pointed teeth or long fingernails. Similarly, lycanthropes can assume an animal form, which would be a perfect disguise except for the unusual spark of intelligence in their eyes that sometimes gives them away. Types of Lycanthropes: 1. Lythari 2. Werebat 3. Werebear 4. Wereboar 5. Werecat 6. Werecrocodile 7. Werefox (foxwoman) 8. Wererat 9. Wereraven 10. Wereserpent 11. Wereshark 12. Weretiger 13. Werewolf 14. Werespider 15. Wolfwere
DEMONS (Tenebra)
There is no set look for the demons that roam Tenebra, no two demons look alike unless the very rare chance of twins happens. The skin color ranges from a white that rivals the snow to as black as coal. Their eyes are usually bright red, but some are known to have different colored, commonly much paler, eyes such as blue, lilac, dull gold or silver, though it is not uncommon to see Demons with much brighter eyes. They usually vary in height between 6' and 7'5", and weigh between 150 to 200 lbs on average. Demon have lifespans' far beyond that of humans and comparable with elves, although usually somewhat longer. This is, of course, presuming the Demon doesn't meet a premature and violent end, as many often do, but those that survive the trials of their society and the horrors of Tenebra can live for centuries, sometimes as long as 2,000 years or more.
ELF (Tellus)
Elves are roughly of human height, standing between 5'5" and 6'1" on average, but are lighter, weighing in between 130 to 180 lbs. Even exceptionally strong Elves look rather slim compared with other races, looking athletic rather than muscular. Most Elves are fair-skinned rather than dark, though some Elven skin is a hue darker than that of the star elves or moon elves. Most Elves have black hair, with silvery hues common amongst moon elves and star elves while blond or copper hues are more common amongst the sun elves. This hair is often worn long and loose. Elves eyes are most commonly green, with sun elves commonly possessing golden eyes and moon elves commonly exhibiting blue hues.[10] Violet eyes are also not unheard of, though rarer. Unlike moon elves or sun elves, Elves native to the Feywild lack pupils and have eyes that appear to be solid orbs of color[1] while more common varieties of Elves exhibit eyes normal except for the gold-speckled appearance of moon elf eyes. Elves, like elves, grow at a decelerating rate throughout their lives. Very young Elves mature at a rate comparable with humans but during adolescence slow to a near stop until about 110 years of age, at which point Elves are considered mature. Elves then remain vigorous and active until the middle of their third century. Even so, after this most Elves suffer few of the infirmities of old age that plague other races, remaining full of life until the end. Common to all Elves is the fact that they don't sleep. Instead, they enter a trance, also known as a “reverie”, for four hours a day. During this time they meditate on recent events.
Humans (Lucerna)
Humans are generally neutral to most species, though even the best tend to be somewhat wary of strangers, and at worst, humans can be raving xenophobes. Once they become accustomed to an individual or culture, they tend to adopt a stance that assumes that said culture has always been part of their own. Inclined to fear most creatures, humans tend to panic easily and usually lash out violently at those they feel are responsible. Unlike on other worlds, even the most isolated human hamlet will not be bigoted against other humans because of skin color or appearance; on a world with dozens of non-human species, racism is a pretty dull pastime, while specism is far more interesting. Humans are usually about 5-6 ft. tall, and weigh about 100-200 lb., with a slight bias towards lesser weights. They have varying skin colors, from pale and tan to true ebony in color, while their hair can be black, red, brown, white, gray, or blond. Humans may have eyes of several shades, including those of blue, green, brown, red, hazel, black, and yellow; spellcasters open have a violet or orange sheen on their irises, which becomes pronounced when casting spells. Humans have variable relations with other races, colored by their natural tendency to reject strangers. Dwarves are generally accepted in most human cultures, while halflings or gnomes are considered to be too inconsequential to take much notice of. In contrast, reptilian humanoids may attract more positive attention, usually of a curious or interested nature; unless reptilian humanoids make themselves a threat, humans would rather befriend lizardfolk, troglodytes, and the like. Humans generally find elves to be too haughty and arrogant for their tastes, and react to wood elves, Drow, and most fey with hostility, if not outright violence. Orcs are almost universally hated, while of the goblinoids, only goblins are tolerated, albeit barely. Ironically, half-humans such as half-elves, half-Orcs, or half-dragons are judged by their human heritage, not their other parent's ancestry, and as such attract little hostility for being half-human; this also applies to teiflings, aasimaar, lycanthropes, and the like. Most other species attract no more attention, beneficial or hostile, than they would for any other species.
Shifter (Zephyru)
Shifters are no different than their Human counterparts when it comes to the humanoid appearance. One major trait of this being is that it transforms at will. It does not automatically change forms in full moons, when immersed in water, etc. They can stay in their human form indefinitely, and many don't even know they have this ability during early childhood (it usually first appears during the teenage years). Though their transformation is willful, they can "accidentally" cause transformation by losing control of their emotions, particular anger. Some shifters of this kind can transform into multiple animal forms while others can only transform into a single form. All members of this race begin as single-form shifters. It is not known why some can change into multiple forms and some into only a single form throughout their lives, but it appears to be genetically pre-determined. One of the main characteristics of the Shifters of Lucerna is their light colored hair and violet eyes, which is normally how they are told apart from humans.
Nymphs (Nymphe)
Nymphs are fey that typically resemble Tel-quessir women, not just physically beautiful, but literally blindingly so. They usually dwell in forests, streams, waterfalls, or coves. They are the guardians and protectors of these and the portals to the faerie realm. It is said that their beauty can lead anyone who gazes upon them to either blindness, madness, or even death. However, they can suppress this ability if they wish. They absolutely hate anything that is either evil or ugly. Their Queen is more powerful than King. They have the ability to wield the power of Water. They celebrate many different festivals. They are immortal unless killed in battle, which they try to avoid. Despite their immortality, their population is low due to breeding laws.
Lesser Races: No Magic GNOLLS
Gnolls are extremely tall; the average member of the race standing on average between 7' and 7'6", though Gnolls are relatively lean for their height, weighing in usually between 280 to 320 lbs and the race cuts an impressive visage. In part because of their height and lean musculature Gnolls are very quick compared with many other races such as humans. Gnolls skin is a greenish-gray, and their furry hide is light or dark brown marked sometimes with spots or stripes. Many Gnolls also have a dirty yellow to reddish-gray crest-like mane that stands on end when a Gnoll is angry. It is believed by some that Gnolls have traces of demonic blood, which may be evidenced by unusual features found amongst some of the Gnoll bloodlines. These may include talons, gleaming red eyes, or black fur with fiery orange spots. Female Gnolls are indistinguishable from males by size, in spite of a reputation for being shorter. In fact, so similar are male and female Gnolls in appearance that they are often mistaken for one another and the only reliable way to tell the difference other than through a close physical examination is if a female is pregnant or openly nursing. Gnolls have very short lifespans’ when compared with other sapient humanoids, living only 30 or so years on average and maturing to adulthood at a remarkable speed. Gnolls do not, however, age particularly dramatically except at the end of their lifespans’, at which point the decline is sharp and deadly, quickly ending in death.
Centaurs
Centaurs are free spirits of the forest. They have a deep connection to the fey and drinking. But, mostly drinking. They are most notable for their wars in the early years against humans. They fought for control of the forests they call home. Ultimately they lost because they don't reproduce fast enough. They are generally friendly, but a bit dimwitted. Quick to anger, but also quick to forgive. Centaurs have the torso of a man attached to a horse where the horse's neck would be. They are typically between 5 1/2 and 7 feet tall, with a body length about the same. They weigh somewhere between 500-600 pounds. Their human chests are covered with a brownish thick hair, much like Freddy Mercury's was. Their eyes are usually yellow, or green, but white and a shocking blue are not entirely uncommon. Their skin is usually a pale color, but they tend to get so dirty that most think that they are tan. The horse part ranges in color as much as horses do. Centaurs get along especially well with fey creatures and other forest dwellers. They don't exactly see eye to eye with elves, finding them a bit arrogant, but they respect their love of nature. They especially love drinking with dwarves, and they feel some kinship with half-Orcs, as they are in a similar situation with a world that doesn't seem to have quite enough room for them.
Dwarves
Dwarves are known for their skill in warfare, their ability to withstand physical and magical punishment, their knowledge of the earth’s secrets, their hard work, and their capacity for drinking ale. Their mysterious kingdoms, carved out from the insides of mountains, are renowned for the marvelous treasures that they produce as gifts or for trade. Dwarves are slow to laugh or jest and suspicious of strangers, but they are generous to those few who earn their trust. Dwarves value gold, gems, jewelry, and art objects made with these precious materials, and they have been known to succumb to greed. They fight neither recklessly nor timidly, but with a careful courage and tenacity. Their sense of justice is strong, but at its worst it can turn into a thirst for vengeance. Among gnomes, who get along famously with dwarves, a mild oath is "If I’m lying, may Icross a dwarf." Dwarves stand only 4 to 4 1/2 feet tall, but they are so broad and compact that they are, on average, almost as heavy as humans. Dwarven men are slightly taller and noticeably heavier than Dwarven women. Dwarves’ skin is typically deep tan or light brown, and their eyes are dark. Their hair is usually black, gray, or brown, and worn long. Dwarven men value their beards highly and groom them very carefully. Dwarves favor simple styles for their hair, beards, and clothes. Dwarves are considered adults at about age 50, and they can live to be over 400 years old. Dwarves get along fine with gnomes, and passably with humans, half-elves, and halflings. Dwarves say, "The difference between an acquaintance and a friend is about a hundred years." Humans, with their short life spans, have a hard time forging truly strong bonds with dwarves. The best dwarf-human friendships are between a human and a dwarf who liked the human’s parents and grandparents. Dwarves fail to appreciate elves’ subtlety and art, regarding elves as unpredictable, fickle, and flighty. Still, elves and dwarves have, through the ages, found common cause in battles against Orcs, goblins, and Gnolls; and elves have earned the dwarves’ grudging respect. Dwarves mistrust half-Orcs in general, and the feeling is mutual. Luckily, dwarves are fair-minded, and they grant individual half-Orcs the opportunity to prove themselves.
Half-Orcs
Half-Orcs are, on average, somewhere between 5'9" and 6'4" in height and usually weigh between 155 and 225 pounds making them a little taller and stronger than humans on average. Most half-Orcs have grayish skin, jutting jaws, prominent teeth, a sloping forehead, and coarse body hair, which cause them to stand out from their human brethren, though their canines are noticeably smaller than a full-blooded Orc’s tusks. Half-Orcs as such appear bestial to humans, though amongst Orcs they are considered human-like physically. Half-Orc hair is most often black, though it grays very quickly with age. In general, half-Orcs do not live as long as humans, maturing by their sixteenth year and often dying before their sixtieth. Half-Orcs that have lived amongst Orcs might pick up a common orcish tradition, that of ritual scarring. Half-Orcs with such a background do not look upon scars as marks of shame or as unattractive blemishes, but rather as marks of pride that demonstrate their skill and bravery in battle. On occasion, however, scars are used for a darker purpose; with Orcs marking half-Orc slaves with scars in the same manner a rancher might brand cattle. Half-Orcs have shorter lifespans’ than humans, reaching maturity slightly earlier and rarely living longer than seventy-five years.
Gnomes
Gnomes are very small compared to most other races and, with an average height ranging between 3'4" and 3'8" and a comparable weight range of 50 to 75 lbs gnomes are smaller even than halflings. However, while halflings are commonly said to resemble short humans, gnomes are more comparable with Tel-quessir, with whom they share pointed ears and high cheekbones, or even dwarves, who they are compared to due to their tendency to grow beards and live underground. Many gnomes have a more feral appearance than either, however, with hair that often sprouts from their heads in odd directions. The skin of gnomes runs in hue from reddish tans to earthy browns or even shades of gray, with exact hue somewhat dependent upon the ethnic origin of a gnome. Similarly, gnomish hair varies wildly in color from blond and brown to more exotic colors like white, orange, or even green. Gnomish eyes are often, particularly in individuals who are native to the Feywild, glittering black or blue although more natural eye colors are also known to the race. Gnomes are very long-lived, often living as long as Tel-quessir, which means living over three centuries, is not uncommonly rare and five centuries is not unheard of. Generally, gnomes are considered to reach maturity at forty years of age. However, unlike elves or eladrin, gnomes show a greater degree of aging as they grow older and once a gnome has passed his or her first century, their hair begins to gray, if it was not already white, and their skin begins to wrinkle as in humans or dwarves. However, even the oldest gnome retains a vitality that would be extraordinarily unusual amongst many of the younger races.
Harpies
Harpies have the upper body of a humanoid and the lower body of a reptile, with scaly, clawed feet and hands. They have filthy, tangled hair on their heads; black eyes; and possess wings which render them capable of flight. Harpies have the appearance of female humanoids with grotesque, avian features. The hands and feet of a harpy end in long, sharp talons. Most harpies are unclean creatures, who have no regard for their appearance. They tend to wear little or no clothing, so as to not restrict their flying mobility, and what little they do wear usually consists of baubles and tokens stolen from the corpses of those whom they have slain. The feather coloration of a harpies varies based on the various regions of Toril that they are native to. Rumors even abound of beautiful harpies found in tropical lands, which boast the colorful plumage of parrots or other birds of paradise.
Minotaurs
Minotaurs are a strong and combative race of monstrous humanoids resembling bull-human hybrids. Minotaurs are giant humanoids with fur covered bodies and bull-like heads. It was once believed that all Minotaurs were male; actually cursed humans that had been altered by the gods or a demon lord to become a Minotaur. That legend has proven false as female Minotaurs have become more prevalent over the years. Minotaurs are known to be cannibals, feeding off the flesh of sentient creatures. They love to dwell within maze-like caverns or ruins, where their innate sense of direction prevents them from getting lost. They lure travelers into their maze-like homes, where the Minotaurs have the advantage over their unfortunate prey.
Vampires
A vampire is an undead creature. A humanoid or monstrous humanoid can become a vampire, and looks as it did in life, but with paler skin, haunting red eyes, and a feral cast to its features. A new vampire is created when another vampire drains the life out of a living creature, or when a living creature is killed by its Energy Drain. Vampires are drawn to feed on the blood of the living, and can only survive on blood (normal food and drink do nothing for it and cause it to forcefully vomit it up within moments), obtaining it in any way they possibly can. They do not cast shadows, nor do they possess a reflection. A vampire can be of any evil alignment, and if its alignment was not evil in life, it becomes so in undeath. A vampire retains all the abilities it had in life, and also becomes super-humanly strong, fast, and durable plus it gains the ability to drain blood and life energy, and to dominate other creatures with its gaze. Vampires gain the ability to shape shift into a Dire Wolf, Wolf, Bat, Dire Bat, and a Gaseous Form. A vampire can also command rat swarms, bat swarms, and wolves. Despite their many strengths, vampires have a multitude of weaknesses and limitations that cannot be overcome, no matter how old the vampire is. While this may cause problems for the vampire, it provides some comfort for the living who face these creatures. Garlic will keep a vampire at bay, as well as prevent it from entering a room or building laced with garlic. Staking a vampire does not destroy it, however it paralyzes the vampire, rendering it helpless until the stake is removed. Primarily this tactic is used in conjunction with more efficient disposal methods, such as exposing it to sunlight or beheading (unlike other undead, vampires need their heads and are destroyed if beheaded). Additionally, Vampires are repelled by mirrors (as they lack a reflection) and cannot attack someone wielding a mirror. Those of strong faith can repel a vampire with a holy symbol; the effects are the same as when one wields a mirror. Vampires cannot enter a private home unless they are invited in by the owner or by someone with the authority to do so. Once invited in, they may come and go as they please. Public places (such as inns and taverns), require no invitation for a vampire to enter, because by definition, they are open to all. Silver and magical weapons can hurt a vampire if one possesses such a weapon and is brave enough to fight these monsters. There are two known efficient ways to destroy a vampire permanently. One is to immerse a vampire in naturally running water (such as a river). Doing this causes it to lose one third of its hit points each round until it is finally destroyed (in other words, it can only survive for three rounds). The last, is exposing the vampire to direct sunlight. Upon first exposure, the vampire is disoriented and can only make a single move action, or attack action before it is destroyed utterly. In some rare circumstances, a vampire consumes enough blood to be mistaken for a human. Then in even rarer cases, they breed with a humanoid or monstrous humanoid, creating a Half-Vampire. This unholy creation also occurs when a pregnant mother survives a vampires blood drain attack and the child is tainted in the result. Master Vampires are vampires that have perfected the art of taking spawn and as a result, can lead gangs against their enemies. They usually have one spawn that is much better than the others, due to their Master's Chosen ability. However, all of a master vampires spawn are better than the norm, stronger, faster, and more numerous.
Trolls
Trolls are massive, predatory species of giant-kin; they are considered "stupid bastards" by other species of giants except for ogres, who are treated the same way. The most distinctive feature of trolls is their ability to regenerate. If any part of a troll's body is cut off, it will grow back after a while and the felled limb has a chance to evolve into an entirely new troll. The only things that can stop this are fire and acid, both of which trolls fear greatly. The average troll stands 9 ft (2.7 m) high and weighs roughly 500 lbs (227 kg), though females tend to be a bit larger than males. The hide of trolls is rubbery, and usually either moss green, putrid gray, or mottled gray and green. Their coarse hair is typically iron gray, or greenish-black. Trolls initially seem to be somewhat shorter, due to their sagging shoulders and tendency to hunch forward. They walk with an uneven gait, and their arms dangle and drag the ground when running. Despite this apparent awkwardness, trolls are quite agile.
Halflings
hey are very similar to wood elves in most cases, for instance, they have markedly pointed ears. Nymphs are always female, possessing incredible beauty that is dangerous to behold. As such, they are the frequent target of satyrs and lecherous human males. Halflings are small in comparison with the members of most other races, standing between 3'10" and 4'2" tall and weighing on average between 75 and 85 lbs. In many ways, halflings resemble small humans and usually have the same proportions as the typical human adult. Most halflings, regardless of their skin complexion, which has a similar range to humans, although it is commonly ruddy in hue, have dark hair and eyes. Nearly all male halflings are incapable of growing true beards, though many have long sideburns. Halfling hairstyles are often complex, with strands woven together or braided. Although halflings have an affinity for collecting valuables, they do not prefer to wear these on their person, instead preferring more comfortable clothing. Halflings have lifespans’ comparable with, but slightly longer, than humans. A Halfling is typically considered an adult in their early twenties and some live into their 150s.
