Using the example above? Probably to enchant his sword specifically into a soul stealer weapon so he can keep cashing them into the devil later. He might net ten villager souls in a town raid and start running a tab for later in case of emergency healing or situational needs. It's good business for the both of them as Octavius sees the devil's hell as just another part of the Tartarus realm, if the devil gets the brownie points instead of him, he's fine with it. But he will be hard pressed to ever sell his personal soul, he already swore that to Hades directly.
