Hi all, I am looking to recruit a few people (about 5-7) for a superhero RP I'd like to start soon. I already have a few people I know who will be joining this, which will make a total of 8-10 players, including myself. I will start the RP when I have a total of 8 players (an additional 5), and I will close applications after reaching 10 total players (an additional 7). Now for the sake of quality to you, my players, I will ask that if you wish to show interest and be subsequently recruited, to agree to the following terms:
1. Follow the site rules. 2. Post semi-regularly, somewhere between once a day to three times a week, or something like that. You should be someone who is not ok with making nine other people wait for you to post. For this reason, even though this is in casual, I will allow the occassional one-liner, if only to keep things going if you simply cannot think of enough content to write. It's fine, there isn't always something amazing to do, or clever to say. 3. Because this is a superhero RP, things can get out of hand and overpowered very quickly. For that reason, I need players to regulate their own characters. This is a character exploration, not a competition; I don't want this devolving into an arms race. 'Instant' teleportation isn't 'instant', invulnerability is 'limited invulnerability', etc. It's OK to let your characters get hurt, it builds character. Of course, no godmodding, no doing anything that will either give you control over another player's character, or find out things about their character they don't want your character to know. This will be a fine line that will be difficult to skirt, for example, I would avoid powerful psychic types, but if you absolutely must have a powerful psychic character, then please discuss what your character plans to do with the impacted player and obtain permission from them before proceeding. We should all be friendly and understanding to each other, and help each other create this collective story. 5. To be added to the roster, type "I agree to these terms" in your reply post. By agreeing to these terms, you give me the right to call you out if you violate these terms.
That's it for RP rules really, unless someone can think of any for me to add, the help would be greatly appreciated.
Now for a bit of character caveats. Because of the world I plan to build (yes, there is a method to the madness), there are certain limits to what a character can be. For one, space aliens of any sort will be in short supply for a very important story-based reason. So if you create a character who is an alien or has alien powers, it will receive additional scrutiny from me, and if I allow it, I may only allow it after offering some edit suggestions. There are even more restrictions for anything even remotely resembling a divine magical/religious being. Magic exists in the world, but being magic, definitive proof of divine beings and/or creatures remains ever elusive. That means no actual gods from any pantheon, no intelligent creatures (no intelligent dragons, but beast dragons who only eat and sleep and have the intelligence of a 'clever girl' velociraptor are fine to exist), no angels, no demons, no fairy/fae folk of any sort, no elves, dwarves, etc. No species/races beside human. Now someone can have angelic powers or demonic powers and claim to have either learned it from an angel/demon or claim that one of their parents was an angel/demon, but the actual angel/demon in question will never appear, allowing plausible deniability (which some scholars argue is the basis for faith). Now you can be a vampire or werewolf, but only if you don't play those creatures up as their own separate races; they either were normal people afflicted with some magical disease/curse, or it was the result of a normal human dabbling into too much dark magic, etc. Long story short, the only sentient/intelligent lifeform native to Earth are humans. Period. I also do want most of you to be rookies rather than veterans, though I will allow a few veterans if people really want to make them.
I'm not asking you to start making characters here, I just wanted to make it plain in case any of these character restrictions are deal-breakers for you, then you should probably look elsewhere. One last thing, I am opening this world up to player contributions, specifically, I would like every player to have a main superhero character. In addition, any player may add 'flavor characters', NPC's, side characters, etc. to flesh out their history. Let me know if you want to control those characters, or if you want me, the GM, to control those characters. This means that you can totally make the supervillain rival to your superhero character, and you can play them, or let me play them. You can also 'swap' villains with another player if you think that would be fun. I allow this because rogues galleries are often themed with the heroes they belong to. Of course, I don't want every player to make like 5 different characters. My tiny GM head would explode. Once the OOC is up, you can discuss with your fellow players if you will be starting solo careers, or if you would like to begin the RP already in teams, etc. Well, that's it, I hope my 'terms' don't make me come off as a d-bag, I just want some good, clean, cooperative, quality fun occurring on a decently regular basis. See you on the other side.
