Complex, however there have been magical innovations which helps alleviate the needs we once took for granted in modern times, such as the ready access of clean water, labor, and material goods. As for where and how we get most of those materials, I know us GM's are working on it. I know at least that Tyrael gets metals and certain natural resources from the Ravine, salt which he can get by hunting down certain creatures and extracting saline from their radish-like heads (There are weird monsters in the Ravine).

Either Fallout 4 is so realistic that I may actually be killing real people, or that's some damn fine craftsmanship.
