She remembered how awful she felt when her father said such things. Even as Ayame was explaining the mission, Rin was still thinking about all of that. She still heard what the mission details were, but Rin also was thinking back to what had happened and how upset she remembered feeling.
Rin got home a bit late -- later than any member of her surprisingly large family would have been up at -- so, Rin entered her room without notifying anyone. She didn’t want to deal with any of them after such a long and tedious mission. Plus, she was so exhausted that facing her family that late into the night, Rin would just ware herself out even more than she would have prefer to do so. Besides, Rin would just endure it in the morning. She had no doubts that the reports from the mission would reach her father by the time Rin woke up, so that surely was something to look forward to. As the first rays of the morning sun reached her room, beaming through the dark blue curtains of her room, the sunlight glared on her face. The exposure to this light made her slowly open her eyelids. The first thing she saw was indeed the light. It was so bright that Rin put her hands on her eyes as to shield them from the sun. She turned over to her side where the light wasn’t in her face and a gaze of the other side of her room came to her, specifically the gaze of her nightstand and the alarm clock of hers that rested on it. Eyes half-open, Rin saw the time and it was about half-past seven in the morning. From what she remembered, she slept for almost twelve hours. Not as much as she had usually gotten in the past. Rin kept on looking at her clock for several more minutes. The debating thoughts of getting more sleep or getting up went back and forth in her mind. There was a lot of moaning and groaning. It wasn’t until she heard her name being called that made her decision for her. “RIN! TIME FOR BREAKFAST!” The voice of her sister Yukina called out from downstairs. Yukina had always been the loud one of her four siblings. Rin hated that she was so energetic, especially in the morning. Rin groaned. She didn’t want to get up now that her decision was made for her. She just wanted to stay in bed, ignore everyone and let the day fade away. However, it seemed fate had other plans. Suddenly, a large crash of her door opening was heard, prompting Rin to prop upright quickly, “FOR THE LOVE OF--” Yukina shouted, looking slightly annoyed as she saw Rin was still in bed. “Rin, I said breakfast is ready!” Yukina shouted to her little sister. Rin just looked at her with the more annoyed face possible. It was taking all that she could not to pound the hell out of her older sister right then and there. “I would have come down eventually if you hadn’t been so goddamn pushy.” Rin said to her sister. “Me? Pushy? Never.” Yukina’s voice oozed with sarcasm. “Just come down. The whole family is waiting for you.” Yukina said with a smile and a wink as she left her little sister. Yukina sure changed her moods frequently. “Stupid Yukina.” Rin sighed as she looked around for something to wear. She looked over in the corner and saw some semi-clean sweats that were black in color and had a cyan skull pattern on them. Added with a simple light blue tank, Rin made her way out of her room and down the stairs. When Rin had made her way to the dining room, she saw her entire family. There was her father Lucious sitting at the head of the table. The left of him was Rex. Opposite of him was their mother. Next to Rex, Kagetsu sat and opposite of her was Yukino. Yukina saw next to her twin brother and there was a chair opposite of Yukina and Rin took it. Throughout the table, there was quite the selection of breakfast items. There was eggs of different varieties -- some were boiled, fried, poached, scrambled, and hardboiled. There was also a collection of potatoes. Some of them were cubed in a hash and some were shredded. There was also pancakes and waffles, some steaks, and fruit. There was a pile of bacon and a few rows of thick, maple sausage links. It was a big family breakfast and everyone started taking what they preferred. Luscious took a steak and fried eggs as well as some coffee and orange slices. Hana, the mother, took a few waffles and pear slices. Rex and Kagetsu both just had some coffee and pancakes. The twins had the same thing: Waffles, bacon, and scrambled eggs. While everyone was enjoying their breakfast, Rin sat there looking at what she had gotten and that was a few sausage links and fried eggs. After five minutes of getting it, Rin did not even touch it. She simply looked down at it. Obviously her mind was somewhere else at the moment. Yukino took notice as he saw his baby sister looking down at her plate. “It’ll go cold if you don’t eat it, baby sister.” Yukino said in a low tone so that only she would hear him. Though, with the sounds of the utensils hitting the glass plates and the chatter that followed it, not like anyone would hear him anyways. On the words of her brother, Rin started to eat her food, but she did not enjoy it. It wasn’t that it wasn’t tasty. All of the food the chef makes had always been top-notch, five-star worthy food, but Rin’s state of mind was just not in the place for her to enjoy it. Still, she did not want it to go to waste, so she ate as much as she can, albeit a little slower than most. By the time she had finished her plate, she was the only one left. It was about fifteen minutes until Rin finished her plate and had put it on the kitchen counter where one of the maids was doing the dishes. As Rin was about to head back to her room, she stopped. “Rin, could you come to my study for a moment?” She heard her father call out to her as he was gesturing to follow him. She had no choice but to do so. As Rin followed her father into his study, he spoke. “Close the door please.” He said calmly, taking a seat at his desk. “Please, if you will.” He said gesturing to her once more, this time towards one of the two chairs that face opposite of his desk. Rin nervously took a seat. She didn’t know what this was about. With her father, it could have been about how she was a disappointment to him as both a possible heir to the clan and a daughter in general. “Father, please if I did anything--” Luscious held his hand up, “It’s alright, I’m not going to lecture you on your life choices thus far.” He said with a certain elegance to his voice. Rin was stunned, but also very curious. “Then, if I may ask, what is this about?” She inquired. Laughing slightly, Luscious leaned forward, his hands holding his head up as they were locked under his chin. A smile formed. “About your mission of course.” He stated simply. “Oh..” Her voice fell flat and low. “So, you already heard, did you?” She said. "Yes, I got the report while you slept last night." Luscious said as he nodded. He continued. “That I have.” He said, “quite the ordeal indeed. A whole village killed by a man with a rather unique Kekkei Genkai. Such a trait that should be considered highly dangerous if in the hands of the wrong person.” He was stating facts that Rin already knew. “And to think he lured Konoha shinobi there just so that he could get a quick death. Truly a tragedy indeed.” He said as if he was narrating some television special or lecturing a class. “Father, if you forgive my rudeness, but why are you telling me something that I already know?” Rin said with a hint of annoyance in her tone. Luscious laughed. “Yes, you do. And it’s my understanding that you had the option of being the one to end this man’s life, is it not?” Rin simply nodded. “So, tell me my sweet, rebellious daughter, why didn’t you? Why didn’t you take the initiative of proving your worth to this family -- to your village -- and deliver what that man wished?” He asked coldly, the disapproving tone of his back in full force. “Father, it’s not what you think--” Rin was trying to explain, but she was cut off by him. “Don’t bother answering. I already know. You are weak and frail. You do not have what it takes to end a life, even if it’s the life of a man that wants you to. I can’t believe that you have the blood of a Reikan in you. You‘re pitiful.” His words of disgust ripped through like a straight razor as if she were butter. The pure anger and disgust he felt for his own daughter made her sit there, frozen. Rin wanted to cry. She could feel the tears coming, but she did not let him see them. “A-am I free to go now?” She asked simply. “Yes, do as you please. I have nothing more to say to you.“ Luscious waved her away, turning away in his chair. Rin ran out of her father’s study, tears flowing from her eyes. Her siblings saw, but before they could ask, she had ran out of the door, across the lake, and off to god-knows where.
It wasn’t before long that the mission briefing was done and the teams all took off, following their respective leader. The genin team was supposed to be Rin, Geichi, and Doto, but after the mission in Raijin, Doto quit the life of an active shinobi. Rin couldn’t blame him, but she was still disappointed. She thought he would at least stay as a shinobi, but just take time off. Either way, Rin didn’t like it, but there was nothing else that she could do. As Rin adjusted her bag, she tightened it so that it wouldn’t fall off on the long journey that was sure to come with the mission. She followed Geichi’s lead.

Jaakuna Sawada, The Sundance Kid

Briefly after Hideyoshi left to get briefed more on the mission that had Jaakuna bed-ridden, Chrome and Aisha came back. It was literally just seconds after his brother left that they entered his room. Jaakuna could still feel the wind from Hideyoshi’s departure mixing with the natural breeze from the wind. “We’re back!” Aisha announced running towards Jaakuna, hugging him. She had a can of Naruto Pop in her hand. Jaakuna just smiled and was laughing a bit. “Something I miss?” Chrome inquired, taking a seat in the chair next to Jaakuna’s bed, crossing her legs as she sipped her Sasuke Energy Drink. “Hideyoshi came to visit me not too long ago.” Jaakuna mentioned. Chrome stopped sipping her drink briefly, her fist was tightening. Jaakuna noticed and had a look of fear on his face. “Did he now?” She said, untensing her grip of her drink. “That was nice of him.” Her voice was calm, but only for Aisha’s sake. Jaakuna knew that tone. He knew it cause that was her tone of voice every time either Jaakuna would get injured or Hideyoshi would talk. She still had great disdain for him, which was a normal reaction. It’s been only a little past a year since his father and Chrome’s husband was killed. Even though the three of them know what kind of man he truly was, Chrome still felt ill will towards Hideyoshi. There was really nothing Jaakuna could do. As the time flew by, Jaakuna was enjoying the various conversations his family and him were having. That was, however, until Ayame came back to his room only to tell him that he had to be out of the hospital by two days from then. It came to him as a shocker, but there wasn’t anything Jaakuna could do about that. He either had to push through the pain or claim to be too injured to go on a mission, but Jaakuna wasn’t that lazy. “I guess I better get out of here then.” Jaakuna said, as he was about to get out of bed. “What are you talking about? You’re still hurt.” Chrome was protesting the idea. “Mom, I understand you’re worried, but I can’t stay in bed any longer.” Jaakuna was adamant about going. “You heard Ayame-sempai. I need to be ready by two days from now. The least I can do is start getting my body ready by walking.” Jaakuna said. Chrome wanted to protest further, but that’s when she saw the look of determination in his eyes. Furthermore, the tone of his voice added to that. Chrome simply shook her head and smiled. “I swear, if this keeps up, I’m going to be all alone.” She said, “Fine, let’s get you checked out.” She said, agreeing. “Thank you.”
Two days after taking it easy, Jaakuna was there with everyone else as the mission was being briefed. When Ayame was explaining, he was paired up with Paneru and Shin as they were going to be led by Fujitora, Ayame’s brother and Lord Commander of the Jounins. The mission was to recover some scroll that was stolen. “Sounds easy enough,” Jaakuna mused aloud. He wasn’t lying though. From what Ayame said, it really wasn’t that hard of a mission. As she finished, the teams took off. Jaakuna following Paneru, Shin as the latter two followed Fujitora. When they first took off, Jaakuna was lightly favoring his ribs. It seemed that his injuries haven’t fully-healed yet. Anybody that would even look back at him would clearly see that he was holding his sides. Eventually, they would all meet at an abandoned park in Downtown. All three chunin sat on the grass while Fujitora-sensei was leaning against a tree. As he would explain it the mission in detail, Jaakuna didn’t smile, but he did have a little grin. It wasn’t at Fujitora explaining the mission, but it was what Shin said. “Yeah, Shin’s right. We grab the scroll, kick some asses and get back in time for supper.” Jaakuna proceeded to highfive Shin as he finished.
