It totally works for me. I'm fine with Ryota being pre-established friends with Tatsuya, they seem as if they'd get along fine with each other. I don't know how [i]that[/i] specific relationship came to present, however, lol. Maybe something out of school? Like, I don't know, maybe Tatsuya was ambushed by some school thugs on his way home, due to his popularity in school, and Ryo came along and casually kicked the dicks into a wall. Maybe that could have been the start to their impromptu friendships, with Ryo coming along with Tatsuya on his 'fun tour guides' just for the Hell of it, and to make sure the 'pretty boy doesn't get his ass kicked'.
