Because he is."

Real Name: Adam Brenton Superhero Alias: Grave Gender: Male Age: 17 Power Set: Astral Projection: Adam's soul can leave his body, it's been able to do that since he was alive. He can travel unseen by normal eyes and can even interact with the material world if he concentrates, but the longer he's out the more thin he begins to feel. If he stays out of his body too long he fears he'll fade away entirely. Other Skills: Dead: Adam has been killed, but because his soul was always under his control he is allowed to keep playing the game on hard mode. This time, however, he doesn't have to eat, sleep or feel pain. Analytical: He observes his surroundings very well, and can pick up on any information around him which might prove useful. He can also find the best hiding spot. Empathetic: He can pick up on people's emotions very easily. Weaknesses: Dead: Adam is dead. While this has its advantages, his body no longer heals on its own and without outside assistance every bit of damage he takes is a permanent addition to his slowly eroding vessel. Broke his arm? It'll stay that way. Forever. Afraid of Dying: Adam has already died once, and he didn't like it. Want him to rush in and save you? He may, but not without a lot of hesitating and weighing his options. Some think of this as cowardice, because it is. Personality: When he was alive, Adam wasn’t a particularly sociable kid, but he wasn’t a loner either. He was a friendly kid and never seemed to get on anyone’s bad side, which was mainly because of his empathy, he always seemed to understand what was wrong and be there to listen. People liked hanging around him because he was easy to talk to. He was also that lazy sort of intelligent which makes a kid indecisive about what it is they want to do, but he thought he had all the time in the world to figure that out. Being dead hasn’t really changed that, but it has made him more distant and harder to get close to. It’s also added a lot more fear to the optimistic boy he once was. Now, instead of being ready to jump into the trenches alongside you when you need a hand, he’s more concerned about breaking something he can’t fix, or being caught by some freak accident. Backstory: Adam was born in a small town in Maine, and his childhood started off fairly normal. Two parents who worked hard to keep their family comfortable, an older brother and younger sister. Friends, school, it was all perfectly normal. At least it started that way. When he was in third grade he began to have ‘episodes,’ the teachers called them. He would simply pass out, and nobody could wake him up. They started off short, and when he came too he seemed to have no recollection of anything being wrong. He was taken to the doctor, but nothing was diagnosed. As far as they could tell, he was perfectly normal. The episodes began to get longer, and when they were over he would say he was dreaming. Other kids began to make fun of him, or be afraid of him, for being weird. He was put in special classes for children with medical disabilities; it didn’t make any sense to him, and he couldn’t understand what was wrong. Eventually, his mother decided to home school him. After several more months of watching her son go in and out of consciousness, she finally sat down to talk to him. She told him about his grandmother, a woman with strange powers that she herself had never believed in. It was called astral projection, and it meant her soul could leave her body. She told him she didn’t know how to help, but he needed to learn how to control this or one day he would drift away from his body and never come back. Naturally, that terrified him. He began to stay focused on keeping his powers in check, on keeping his soul firmly housed within his body, and it worked. He stopped drifting away and everything returned to normal. He even made it in time for the next school year. Years passed, and he always kept it in the back of his mind that his soul needed to stay in his body. He went so long without an incident that sometimes he thought it had never happened, just the imagined events of a child. Then, partway through high school, he died. It wasn’t a natural death, it was a sudden and violent end. He was on his way home from school when he saw a fight breaking out in a parking lot, youthfully confident in his invulnerability he tried to stop it, he didn’t see the gun. One bullet through the heart and he was lying on his back, it wasn’t much longer before the ruined organ stopped beating entirely. However, a funny thing happened. He had been struggling to keep his soul in his body for so long that it had strengthened like a muscle, until even death couldn’t pull it away. That said, he had forgotten what he could do. For a long time he stood beside his dead body, watching its progress to the grave. Nobody could see or hear him. It wasn’t until he had witnessed his own embalming that he began to fear being alone, unnoticed for the rest of eternity. He began to remember what he had been doing when he was a child, controlling his soul, and he’d always been able to walk back into his body. Why should this be any different? While it was still on the table, he stepped into his own corpse and walked off shakily. His parents were shocked to see him, his father fainted immediately, but his mother was more prepared for something like that occurring. She knew that in a small town she could never explain why her son was still alive, there was no place left for him in Maine. While they were struggling to find out what to do, a mysterious letter arrived in the mail which led him to Herculean Academy. In reality they are something that even he doesn't fully understand. He can only control one of these entities at a time, and it's a taxing process. Currently, there are only three entities he can summon, but he's always researching. What can he summon? Well...that's been classified by the god of the CS's. Other Skills: Arcane Knowledge - Faust is familiar with a variety of arcane texts and their contents, known and unknown. Mythological Knowledge - Faust's research has made him familiar with a variety of different mythologies. Agility - Although not especially so, Faust is fairly agile and has good reflexes, he can easily dodge careless or novice attacks and stay on his feet. Memorization - Remembering arcane lore when using magic is incredibly important, so while he can't recall everything he's ever read he is very good at memorizing what he needs. Weaknesses: Limited Summoning - Once he has chosen an invocation, he's stuck with it for the duration of the battle. Squishy - Outside of his magic, he's a normal human being and not capable of anything physically superhuman. This renders him particularly vulnerable in combat, and is only narrowly mitigated by his reflexes. Incantation - He has to perform a ritual to summon an entity. Although this ritual isn't too long, unless he is supported or has a chivalrous enemy he is not likely to finish it before they can strike. Subject: History Personality: When he was younger, Hector was a little shit. He was self-aggrandizing, stubborn, impatient and overconfident. He valued knowledge more than experience, and power more than wisdom. He didn’t see where that path would lead him until walking it had cost him dearly. Now, tempered by his experiences, he has become devoted to using his power to benefit others. Using his experience as a lesson for others seemed like the best way to do that, which is why he became a teacher.
