[@Akayaofthemoon] They seem to be pretty solidly using cartoon logic in the show, so there's probably nothing wrong with each gem learning in their own way.  I mean, since Garnet and Amethyst have known each other for thousands of years and fought together, there's a pretty good chance that they've been able to form Sugilite for a very long time.  The guy the gemstone is named after was born in the 1800s, so did she have a different name in the past or something?
